However, I am both a progressive and a loyal Democrat.

That means that I will support and vote for the Democratic nominee in November.

Apparently the DU Bernie Sanders group disagrees with that sentiment since they banned me from their forum for taking a stance of supporting the DU TOS.

This is a candidate forum which supports the violations of the DU TOS!!! Screw them. I don't need them to support my candidate, Bernie Sanders.

and it is also in the real world

I expect the CA democratic party to lose 2-3 percent of registered voters by the end of this. They would lose more if people had to register to vote in the primary. This is a political reality.

And DUers should know this by now.

I am for the immediate disbanding of the DU candidate forums. They serve absolutely no purpose other than to divide us. I could not conceive a more perfect strategy for a Democratic loss in November.

Divide and conquer. And we are doing it to ourselves!!!!

It's easy to see the noise, and miss the peace between it.

There are vicious posters on both sides.

There are good posters who are trying to stay on the positive on both sides.

I also believe the the majority likely stays silent to avoid the attacks of the former.

Really? Really????

It wasn't because I did not support Bernie, it was because I did not support one of their frequent posters who was PPR'd because of a flagrant violation of the DU TOS which Skinner had made abundantly clear was an absolute No-No.

The DU Bernie Sanders group by their actions supports DU TOS violations!

I still support Bernie. I just don't support the idiots hosting the Bernie Sanders group.

Believe me I feel your pain

I've been on time out 2x this primary season myself... I do admit some of those hides I deserved... others were obvious post stalking. C'est la vie, c'est la guerre.

In the end, we have 2 great candidates. I do believe most of us on both sides do want the same progressive and liberal advancements in our society, so really we're still on the same side. Everyone has their favorite for their own reasons, and most take it personally when they see something they feel is unjust being lobbed at their candidate.

I adjusted my behavior since that hide. I have very few juries since, fewer than I can count on one hand.

Too many DUers see alerts and hides as a merit badge of honor. I do not.

34. I can still post in the Hillary group.
Tue Mar 8, 2016, 08:27 PM
Mar 2016

But I am also banned from the Elizabeth Warren group for posting that she had repeatedly said that she was not interested in running for president (which was true).

The bleating at the time in that group was "Elizabeth Warren 2016!!! Yes she is!!! Yes she is!!!! (She's lying about her candidacy!!!)" I called them delusional about her candidacy. They did not like that. It was nevertheless true.

I won't discuss my banning from the Bernie group except to say that I supported a DUer's banning, when he was a Bernie group "member". BTW, he rather flagrantly violated the DU TOS.

How does one become a Bernie Sanders group member? Well, here is how it goes...

1. One has to support Bernie Sanders. Check!

2. One has to support every DUer who also supports Bernie Sanders, especially if they post in the Bernie Sanders secret clubhouse, and even if they don't abide by the Democratic Underground rules. Of course, none of this is in the Bernie Sanders Group's SOP. There is nothing that says supporting the DU TOS is against the group's SOP.

That is why I call for disbanding of all candidate groups. They serve absolutely no purpose than to divide us. They even ban fellow supporters for supporting the greater goal of electing more Democrats and not dividing us.

one was 2008, the other was actually JFK. The more that I think about it.

What do these three have in common? Let me see
A Catholic
An African American
A Jew

I will let you reach the conclusion that people should be reaching, Not that I expect that. People will not realize this is going on well after the dust has settled.

I mostly do not participate in one, and would be blocked from the other, And quite a bit of the division is coming from a third, and I wear that ban with pride at this point.

Tue Mar 8, 2016, 09:58 PM

As, absolutely, does something like misogyny.

I've really tried to check myself- and certainly my wife has helped me on this- as to whether I am judging HRC unfairly or projecting unconscious biases onto her due to her gender, for instance. Like, I know if I were to characterize her as "shrill" that would be an obvious one, but I already wouldnt do that. I do think she has real problems in natural political ability, stump presence and connecting with crowds, but I would make the exact same critique of someone like Al Gore. I dont think that issue is connected to her gender, so much, rather more her style and ease of presentation. My wife disagrees with me on that one to some extent.

I think it - misogyny and unconscious bias- is there, but the fact that some of her supporters have tried to make it an overarching theme of the campaign to the exclusion of substantive issues-based discussion doesnt help.

On the other hand, as you note, she's close to being the first female nominee of a major party, and that is a historical accomplishment which should not be ignored or undervalued.

As for Sanders and anti-semitism, i think there are numerous thorny issues as to why it is almost never discussed, but I think it has been a far bigger factor than many want to acknowledge. There has been a lot of red flag type discussion, things about "churchgoing" and "he's not one of us", not to mention people wanting to make an issue of his agnosticism or atheism, which to my mind is beyond the pale for an actual progressive...

...although Ive known for a while we have religious right members masquerading as liberals but promoting a culturally conservative, repressive agenda.

At just after 2 PM I was the 27th Democratic voter in my township today, in very rural Michigan. That does not bode well even considering that all my neighbors are crazy theocrats. Thankfully there aren't too many of them here in the midst of the national forest, where no paved roads appear. Unfortunately, there are far fewer Democrats.
