Paul Ryan visits soup kitchen for photo op, angering its president

HAHA! This story actually has LEGS!

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/paul-ryan-soup-kitchen-photo-142816396--election.html

"Republican Rep. Paul Ryan stopped by a soup kitchen in Youngstown, Ohio, over the weekend for what seemed to be your typical campaign photo opportunity. During his 15-minute visit on Saturday morning, the vice presidential candidate donned a white apron and offered to wash some dishes that—as several bloggers and a pool reporter later pointed out—did not appear to be dirty.

But according to the president of Mahoning County's St. Vincent De Paul Society, the faith-based charity that runs the soup kitchen, the campaign did not have permission and "ramrodded their way" into the facility.

"We are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations," Brian Antal told the Washington Post. "It's strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.

"The photo op they did wasn't even accurate," Antal continued. "He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.""

It's loud!!

A cacerolazo, cacerolada or casserole is a form of popular protest practised in certain Spanish-speaking countries – in particular Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Spain – and most recently English-speaking countries which consists in a group of people creating noise by banging pots, pans, and other utensils in order to call for attention.

The word comes from Spanish cacerola, which means "stew pot".

The leader of a Youngstown, Ohio, charity visited Saturday by Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said campaign officials “ramrodded their way” into the group’s soup kitchen for a staged photo opportunity of the candidate and his family washing dishes, writes The Washington Post.

Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said the group had not given permission for the unannounced visit, which came as Mr. Ryan was en route to the airport after a town-hall meeting at Youngstown State University.

According to Mr. Antal, the campaign was allowed in at the door by a volunteer. Although soup kitchen staff had already served meals and cleared up, Mr. Ryan and his wife and children put on aprons and were photographed washing already clean pots and pans.

“We’re a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations,” said Mr. Antal, who described himself as an independent voter ...

The unexpected October Surprise.
I knew it was coming from somewhere.
Didn't think it would be self-inflicted.
