Greed vs Patriotism

Last edited Tue Oct 16, 2012, 03:37 PM - Edit history (1)

Righties don't seem to understand that greed can in some cases be bad for America. They claim that in a free market system one should be allowed to maximize profits in any way the law allows, that this is good for America.

My counter to this: How many of our soldiers paid the ultimate price to support greed? When we got hit at Pearl Harbor, when we got hit on 9/11, American citizens gave up their livelihoods, signed on the dotted line, held up their right hand and swore an oath to defend our nation. They did this to defend mom and apple pie and democracy. They did NOT do this to defend some bastard's right to take away mom's apple pie or her democracy.

"Mr. Governor, you can talk about the middle class all you want. But when it came down to paying taxes to help the American people, you moved your money to foreign countries to avoid it. When it came to choosing between your bottom line bank account or American jobs, you shipped those jobs to China and shipped your money to the Caymans. It's convenient that you started caring about the American middle class when you started running for president, because you spent your entire life making a fortune betting against them."

Election over.

Very well stated, short and to the point!

Just a bit ago I heard Ed Shultz trying to make the same point I just did, your point being the obvious nail in the same exact coffin that should bury Romney. As I was listening, Ed who normally is master of the sound bite, stumbled around trying to explain how greed is not what is good for America. He was unconvincing.

I wanted desperately to call the show to tell Ed to say how greed should under no circumstance trump patriotism! There are many things one can list worth dieing for when it comes to defending America. Defending someone else's greed is not on ANYONE'S list.

I think another Auto Bailout argument that can be made is patriotic. In World War II, when this country needed the auto industry, they stopped rolling out cars and started rolling out tanks. Obama should be all over that. When the country needed the help of these auto manufacturers, they were there. When the auto manufacturers needed the country's help, we were there.

If the opportunity presents itself, I hope President Obama points this very fact out.
