(99,711 posts)That being said I'm a cockeyed optimist.

(7,820 posts)Does that make me a concern troll?
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,711 posts)That's why there were multiple options.

(7,820 posts)All of the above.

(99,711 posts)I am a bit concerned. But this format favors the president since he's the empathetic one. Robme has all the empathy of that boss who gave you a pink slip the week before Christmas.

(28,627 posts)why now?
TDale313
(7,820 posts)than I was in 2008. Part of me was braced for another heartbreak of an election. I don't think I really let myself hope until the results came in.
This time, I'm a bit anxious cause I realize this could still turn, but firmly believe Obama's reelection is far more likely than not. And I'm hopeful Obama will knock the debate(s) out of the park and wrap this thing up once and for all.

(111,332 posts)Romney will attempt the Gish Gallop again. Obama will not attempt to counter except by explaining his programs. The pundits will all proclaim Romney's performance to be "crisp and knowledgeable" even though it's 100% horseshit.
Now if Obama laughs at him, even once, it will completely change the course of the debate and quite possibly the closeness of the election. Obama has to be the stern father who refuses to hand the car keys back to the punks who drove the family car off the cliff. Laughing at Romney's bullshit will put it all into perspective.
Too bad it's not going to happen.

(10,479 posts)how on earth Mitt, overnight, caught up and in some polls actually had more people turning to him. Yesterday I thought Obama was ahead. Are we and Obama being set up?

(12,233 posts)My vote is almost in.. Just waiting on my husband to fill in his; and they will be dropped off at a ballot pick up station (mailing costs 65 cents for this monster ballot and I drive by a drop of place almost everyday).
So, I'm excited. I don't believe half the manipulated bs polls out there at the moment. The media wants a big time horse race. They want viewers, they want the ad revenue, and they want the elections to look like some big sports show (boxing matches out of debates). Football analogies of 4th Quarters and Hail Mary passes.
The only thing that concerns me the most is the Pukes ability to steal the election. They probably won't be able to pull off President Obama losing, but down ticket tight Senate and House races may be easier to sneak one past the electorate.
The reason Obama campaign pushes the early vote is to show how many Dems have already voted... Showing big turn out before and leading up to the election in swing states makes it harder for the pukes to steal... And they also know where to go and push the stragglers out to the polls...
I hope it's a blow out and there is a mandate!!! Forget the party that won't do a thing but get in the way! Push down ticket Dems too... The President needs the votes to push through better policy.

(15,223 posts)Confession is good for the soul, right? Yes, I'm anxious.
I have full faith and confidence in President Obama, and I'm sure that he's prepared well for this debate and that he will do much better than the last debate. But I'm anxious because I think it's almost impossible for a good man to go up against a lying, thieving piece of smugness like Romney and come out looking good.
I wish my President well. I already know that even if he knocks one out of the park tonight, the best the media will give him will be the same that they gave Biden, that being a 'draw'.
Draw, my ass.

(28,158 posts)Hopeful because: I think Obama is well prepared, and going to bring his A game.
Anxious because: I really don't trust Crowley to be unbiased in her follow up questions.

(879 posts)it will finally put the first debate in the rearview mirror and refocus the narrative. That's what we need right now. The sooner the better. Mittens was lucky that there was a VP debate in between the first 2 debates so he got to ride high on that for almost 2 weeks. Party's over buddy.

(340 posts)this election is so damn important. Obama has EARNED a 2nd term and its frustrating to see this thing so close.

(46 posts)I think this is a good format for the president. People will be watching closely to see how Romney interacts with the kinds of people that he doesn't normally interact with. I'm hoping he let's someone irritate him. It's happened before. I'm hoping he tries to blow someone off and the camera catches her reaction (audience not allowed to ask followup questions). I'm hoping Prez will be strong in defending the audience--the middle-class by proxy. But he can't "clown" him. Not in this setting. He can't be so aggressive that he makes the audience uncomfortable. But I'm betting he'll do fine. Expect to hear Bain, 47%, tax returns, medicare, "corporations are people", social security a lot.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the Prez says something he hasn't said before--the element of surprise worked pretty well for Mitt. Admit I don't know what that might be, though.

POTUS said in 08 "I don't do cowering", well neither do I. Whatever is next, bring it on, whether good or bad.

I'll most likely watch it, but I have business training tonight, so not sure if I will catch it.
I want to take a nap.
I basically am just going to subscribe to the idea that Obama is heavily favored to win this debate and leave it at that.

(13,776 posts)I know there's 0% chance of a repeat of the last debate, because this time Obama is prepared for the likelihood that Romney will out-and-out lie in front of God and everybody. He will bring his A-game tonight, for sure. But I'm still nervous in a way that I wasn't for the first debate (even though I was a little nervous for that one, too, purely out of sympathy for him). I really thought that first debate was going to be a stroll over Romney's lifeless body in hobnailed boots.
Cosmocat
(14,568 posts)but, I did not expect him to be so overtly assertive.
Take out what he said (a pile of lies that you still can't dig out from under), he gave it his A game.
I don't know. I think at worst our guy ups his game a bit.
But, I expect Romney to be amped and at the top of his game again.
I fear how it will framed if Romney performs well, regardless of how the President performs.
Unless the media collectively is set on setting things right after overcompensating for Romney the last time, I don't see how this works out for the President.

(21,925 posts)I know inside of me that I can't accept conservatism and its current representative for the presidency. I never will. Win or lose, I'm with Obama.

(242 posts)I'm concerned that Romney will continue his smoke and mirrors routine, continue to lie and not get countered on his BS, and that people will still continue to see him as a viable alternative to Obama.
The thought of Romney as President sickens me. After 8 years of Bush's failed policies, you'd think the country would not want to go back to that. To get this FOPPER and a return to BushCo policies (more like W on steroids) would be like a punch to the gut of the middle class and poor of this country, to women and minorities, to anyone other than the 1%.

(384 posts)Before the debate.
At 2 AM, I'm possibly waking up to discharge piss after my last pint.
I don't log on to MSNBC video, 1 hour delayed, or even C-Span, a few minutes behind.
I go back to bed.
The idea that Mitt Romney is in line for possible Presidency of the USA..............outrageous!

(14,568 posts)I am pretty sure the President will bring his A game this go around.
But, I also expect Romney to be sharp by his standards.
I did not think he would roll over the first time, but I did not expect him to be as overtly assertive as he was.
I think that is an indication that he will be sharp this time, too.
Yes, he will lie his arse off, but the standard has been set for debates now.
WHAT people say is irrelevant.
HOW THEY ACT is how they are declaring the winner.
The most assertive candidate is the winner.
I think Romney will once again be all jacked up, like a Mormon on Red Bull.
Unless the media is set on making it right after over compensating for Romney the first time, it at best will be spun as a draw.
Where things are now, a draw is not good for the guy who was declared a loser the first go around.
Our guy needs to ring the bell, and his team needs to already know what they are going to say and have the people in place at all media outlets to strongly interject their narrative. If they are waiting to see what happens, they are going to lose the battle to claim victory, because the Rs already have their narratives set and their people in place to declare victory.
