(Obama leads all his rivals by double digits though Ricky does best)
Milwaukee, Wis. President Barack Obama leads each of his Republican rivals in Wisconsin, according to the new Marquette Law School Poll. Obama leads former Senator Rick Santorum 51 percent to 40 percent and leads former governor Mitt Romney by 53 percent to 38 percent. In January, Obamas lead over Romney was 48 percent to 40 percent. The president holds a 52 percent to 36 percent lead over Rep. Ron Paul and a 56 percent to 33 percent margin over former Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Santorum leads among those who said they would vote in the Republican primary in Wisconsin on April 3 with 34 percent. Romney has the support of 18 percent while Paul has 17 percent. Gingrich trails at 12 percent, with 17 percent saying they are undecided. Santorum has recently surged in national polls and in Michigan polling. Among only Republican respondents who said they would vote in the primary, Santorum received 44 percent to Romneys 20 percent. Wisconsins open primary allows any registered voter to participate.

(20,450 posts)Obama is expected to win WI.
WI_DEM
(33,497 posts)except for 2008 WI has been a swing state that has gone to the eventual winner in 2000 & 2004 by very narrow margins. It is a state the GOP wants to compete heavily in. This is not 2008, and Obama has been behind in some polls in WI in the last year.

(20,450 posts)I understand that this is not the case at the state and local levels.
According to this:

Wisconsin has not voted for a Republican for president since 1984, but elections have been close. I don't think of it has a "swing" state unless it has essentially swung from Dem to Rep more frequently, and it hasn't.
Still, you're right. In ALL states, we need to work hard, but especially at the local, state and congressional levels.
I'm excited and scared at the same time!!

(198 posts)I guarantee you that we "Kerried" Wisconsin in '04. Al Gore also won in Wisconsin in '00. The last Repuke to win in Wisconsin was Reagan in '84. Dukakis even beat the Bush with the brain in '88.
