2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis Hillary supporter is OK with Bernie fighting to the end.
I do think that Bernie can influence the platform and I really don't think it's a bad thing.

(71,265 posts)Sorry but attacking her hurts her. We all know she has faults already.

(18,133 posts)I think the voters in those states who may not be aware of "her faults" are entitled to learn the distinctions between Sanders and Clinton... Besides if everyone already knows what's the harm in talking about these faults?

(18,133 posts)You sound like someone who wants to pretend that their abusive drunk aunt is just like Aunt Bea. You actually think everyone should just put Hillary's "faults" aside?

Services liberalisation is basically a trade developing countries get rid of their public services, public healthcare, public education, in exchange for more openness.. Basically a blanket prohibition on profit-destroying public services, especially 'rights' to healthcare, education, etc.
We want the poor countries to become more like the "successful" US.
call it generosity if you want, but it was really about making higher profits, because the solution proposed is subcontracting at low wages - mandatory international competitive bidding for all government procurement, phasing in gradually, but irreversible (i.e. progressive)
with it likely being workers from developing countries getting those contracts. The big losers will be people in the developed countries without strong unions whose wages are well above global norms.

(11,175 posts)You'll note that Bernie isn't going around saying cattle futures Whitewater Vince Foster travel office sniper fire Benghazi Clinton Foundation etc. The most he's done in that direction is that, after Clinton admitted making mistakes in how she handled emails, he said the matter should be investigated, but he's been very mild even on that score, famously saying he was tired of hearing about her damn emails.
The Republicans (especially if the nominee is Trump) won't be so accommodating.
Sanders's "attacks" on Hillary have largely consisted of pointing out that she's too right-wing on a number of issues. The Republicans will not pick up on those arguments. It would certainly be amusing to see a Republican nominee attack her over the Iraq War Resolution, or call for reinstating Glass-Steagall, but I don't think that will happen.
Suppose that, between now and the conventions, millions of Americans receive (additional or initial) exposure to the idea that Hillary Clinton is well to the right of Bernie Sanders. Then in the fall the Republicans screech that she's too far to the left. What's the net result? She gets perceived as a centrist, a moderate, a person who sensibly avoids the extremes.

But the more Bernie will get delegates, the more he will gain influence on the GE platform draft.

That's MY issue.
Fracturing the left is a very bad idea especially with Drumpf and the Tea party exploding the right.

(9 posts)Don't you think we should be doing everything possible to make sure that doesn't happen? And what better way of doing that but pointing out things we don't like in the party?
I'm sorry but I don't want us to become North Korea.

(5,792 posts)above.......tons of them......there are a lot more than young people that support Bernie Sanders..the HRC group needs to do more research. Many of the states Hillary won were virtually tied with thousands of all ages voting for Bernie.

(15,223 posts)To steal a thought from a commentator this morning, IF Bernie were to drop out now and Clinton became the nominee today, the media would pretty much stop covering the Democrats during the remainder of the primary season, and all of the focus would be on the Republicans.
Don't get me wrong here - I think Hillary is going to be the ultimate nominee. But I think Bernie's involvement still serves a purpose, including allowing the remainder of the states that have not had their primaries yet to vote and have their say.
