2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOHIO - Are you worried it will be stolen from Obama?
Now theres no doubt in my mind in a fair election Obama would mop the floor with Romney but with so much hinging on Ohio I am starting to feel a bit concerned due to what I'm hearing. It's obvious Romney is making a huge play for the state and when I heard his son is involved with the electronic voting machines for Ohio that really concerns me. Why the hell would his son be involved with voting machines unless he planned to use them to make sure his dad wins the state? It really is terrifying to think that this election could be stolen by Romney thanks to his wealth. I just hope the people of Ohio come out in massive numbers for Obama and Romney cant steal the election with the machines.
Does Obama have a path to victory without Ohio? I know it sucks to think about this scenario but I dont put anything past the repubs. They lie cheat and steal with mastery and theres no reason to believe they are not going to do all they can to steal this election.

(340 posts)We've got some cushion there so I'm not too concerned.
My good buddy is a Ohio State Grad and he's been back to Ohio 2 times for ball games this fall and he says there is absolutely NO WAY Ohio is voting for Romney. He even said he doesn't know how the polls show it so close because he just doesn't see it.

(34,857 posts)In 2004, Kerry winning Ohio was a long shot. Almost every poll had him losing. It's the exact opposite, plus, there is a great deal of early voting going on that helps bolster Obama's position.
I was always uneasy about Ohio eight years ago because there wasn't a great deal of polls out there showing Kerry winning in the final week of the campaign.

Oh yeah, they did it in '04. So yeah, worried.
OFA is too well organized for that.

(39,320 posts)The Obama crew is different from the Kerry crew - they have history to fall back on. I think they are as aware (and, I suspect way more aware) than we are here at DU.
I am going out on a limb to say that our party (and our President) has this covered.

I wonder if they're doing that in NC and other states with those machines.

(39,320 posts)which, imo, are more accurate than the public polls. They are not concerned about 'keeping the race close' - they are more concerned with reality.

(103 posts)... couple of "irregularities" in a few isolated Ohio polling places. However look back and see what something so trivial was able to do for LBJ.
However, it is the intimidation tactics of the pro-Romney crowd here that is truly unbelievable. Other than the urban centers, you put yourself at risk of serious harassment if you tell the wrong people (and they are apparently everywhere just waiting to pounce) you support Obama.
Four years ago I was not a staunch Obama supporter (in fact, I may have voted for McCain) precisely for the opposite reason - I thought that Obama's supporters on the ground looked a little too mob-like for my comfort.
This time around, it is the Republicans running around without any attempt to hide their fascist intimidation tactics. If your not wearing their black shirts, they want to shut you up and make you go away, and not the nice "bye, see you later" way. The "let's brand you an enemy of the state socialist" way.
Obama needs to mobilize with a bigger presence on the ground in agri-rural Ohio. Bumper stickers. Yard signs. Buttons. T-shirts. These things send a message that, after the Springsteen crowd breaks up, as you head back to your voting precinct, also known as your neighborhood, you are not alone.

(1,269 posts)What you see out here is 'Obamas War on Coal' and bs like this. We're not talking real smart people, for sure.
Clinton was in Parma today (northern liberal Ohio) with Springsteen & then came down to Wintersville ( more like southern, rural Ohio) to speak at a local hs - 10m down the road. The papers have been covering his visit a lot - that's been good - these backwater papers are red to their eyeteeth.
I'm concerned about the voting machines and the connection to their campaign, especially down in Cincinnati. I read a whole piece on another site about the Bush election irregularities in that county, and in the state in general - I put that one down for stolen. Are they on top of things now? Hope so.
