They don't get into the easily hackable aspect of electronic voting, but this is also important.
In my opinion, no one should trust it -no matter who you want to win.
And now that these machines are this old... that just means their hackability is easier than any code written today.

43 States Will Have Machines At Least 10 Years Old, Could Lead to Long Lines and Lost Votes
In 2016, 43 states will use electronic voting machines that are at least 10 years old, perilously close to the end of most systems expected lifespan, according to a new study released today from the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law.
That includes significant percentages of machines in key swing states such as Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia. Old voting equipment increases the risk of failures and crashes which can lead to long lines and lost votes on Election Day and problems only get worse the longer we wait.
After the Florida election meltdown in 2000, Congress appropriated $2 billion to move to electronic voting systems. But as the Centers new study shows, this technology is rapidly aging out and needs to be replaced.
This site has several good articles
and mentions that no one wants to pay to replace these, now that they were forced on us.

I don't care WHO you're voting for.
ELECTION FRAUD exists.
Start with Gerrymandering and add in voter suppression and that's only the old fashioned methods.
Now we have digital storage of records, electronic voting, and internet transport of tallies
- all highly susceptible to hacking.
And it's all used election after election.
A NATIONAL ELECTION NEEDS NATIONAL RULES, STANDARDIZED METHODS, AND ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES THAT CAN BE READILY CHALLENGED AND PROVEN.
I'm ready to vote to use Red and Blue marbles and let them be counted by machines, twice.

(9,313 posts)as is the case in far too many jurisdictions in this country, something is terribly wrong. Your house can't stand long on a broken foundation.
Election integrity is one of the basics we can never take for granted.

(13,685 posts)They may get the vote counts wrong?
Have ya ever noticed how sometime on DU someone can rec a vote twice? The dif here and there is we can see the records here. Can't do that with a vote for president. Nope, ever since they recounted 2000 and found Gore won Florida, laws were passed to keep a recount like that from ever happening again.

(13,685 posts)My new thinking is that if we are going to use technology instead of humans counting the votes, that we get on with it.
No more half-ass machines; let's set apple and microsoft and whoever else on the problem. And make the code open like we have with banks so any 'glitches' can be discovered and fixed fast.
Make it easy as cake to vote via handheld, desktop, or phones.
We presently have too few people voting, maybe if we make it as open and easy as possible we might actually get back to a majority of the people voting in every election, because the lazy asses can.

...changed the course of our history.
The refusal of Congress... our "cops"... to stop the stolen election by tossing out the FL electors on Jan 6, 2001, or stop the second stolen election by tossing out the OH electors on Jan 6, 2005, or stop the war crimes by impeaching Bush and Cheney, were massive betrayals whose consequences will take decades to repair.
We just have to keep working and doing what we can to get this nation on the path to redemption.

(19,841 posts)and NOT being replaced. I hope. Biggest boondoggle in election history.
I voted marking a paper card fed to an optical scanner. Still lacks transparency with tabulation process but at least the votes do exist somewhere they CAN be found (not that they will be).

(3,687 posts)but don't give a shit for some strange reason. hmmm I wonder why?
THey will say they don't want to talk about it because it might make some Dems feel their vote won't count and then won't vote
(as has been discussed several times on Hartman's show)
BTW if that's the DNC position it's bullshit. There has to be some other reason
