(1,698 posts)Romney and Rove are paying dearly for this illusion in hopes of a steal.

(28,136 posts)Not the steal part although with electric box voting who knows?

(21,024 posts)The rMoney campaign has hired Ben Ginsberg, who presided over Bush v Gore and the Pawlenty-Franken debacle. The Democrats better lawyer up, because if it's close, or even perceived to be close, the Repukes will try to steal it.

(41,832 posts)You know, I don't really think the first debate had much to do with the closeness... it's the money
Bags and bags of money that the right has spent.

(4,982 posts)Citizens United allowed big corps and wealthy to buy their own govt (fuck the rest of us), and the media is pulling record profits off of the deal because now they can spend unlimited amounts of shadowy/black money on advertising. Why would the media mind that or want to change it? They don't.

Just at the precise moment when PBO had an off moment is when Rove and Co. really ramped up their negative onslaught.

(13,069 posts)What the hell is wrong with us? Romney is a buffoon who lies and cheats and is so so so entitled to the Presidency "its my turn," who embarrasses us overseas and will say anything to anybody to get elected...and who will continue the distribution to the rich and keep women in the home barefoot and pregnant and how is able and willing to pay to be President.
Dang America: Pay Attention! Don't believe his lies. Dang.

(28,799 posts)i am really distrustful of that - i think it's spin. i think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of the right with the media tragically complicit.
i'm not giving in to it. most voters know who the right choice is and will vote for him, and he will win. GOBAMA.

(45,319 posts)Largest in our times being Ronald Reagan's 58.8% to Walter Mondale's 40.6%, an 8.2% margin. For perspective, Obama won over McCain by 6%. By Presidential standards, a very large margin of victory.
As long as there are many, many Republican voters, the Republican will always get lots of votes, even when they lose. Why anyone would expect otherwise I can not understand...

The only poll that matters is the one on Election Day.
Get the heck out and vote!

(53,410 posts)It just doesn't. Why would women vote for Romney or Ryan? Because they'll fight for our rights? The right to choose? The right to health care? The right to pay equality? Name one promise they've made to American women. Just one.
There isn't a single thing that women would get out of President Romney. He isn't even bothering to make promises. Even empty ones.
And for that matter what other group have Romney and Ryan wooed? Blacks? Latinos? Gays? Seniors? The youth voters?
He's made promises only to the 1%. Period. And their votes count as much as ours.
Well, maybe not on that last one.

for wacky religious reasons or pure racism.

(28,136 posts)...my thought is that any woman (or any non-rich person) who votes for Willard must have an extremely low self image and self worth.
It's as if they need a King to tell them what to do.

(1,418 posts)the other rather LARGE point most people in Bloggo world miss is: if indeed the "two" political
parties are sooooooooo different, doesn't it stand to reason one party or the other would
be vastly more popular/supported than the other?
WHY would numerous people support a political party that SUCKS??
the classic example is the 2000 POTUS race.
Several amateurs over at Salon's public forum were predicting a "landslide" victory for Gore;
the race ended up one of the closest in history, in terms of the popular vote.
CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)The parties are different.
Otherwise the Repub's would be singing GWB's praises and we'd all be nostalgic for the Bush era instead of the Clinton era.

(1,418 posts)on major financial policy (and several others).
Please get real; EFCA fell off the radar-- oh, 30 months ago. gone.
Only one congressperson I am aware of, Jesse Jackson, Jr., has been recently vocally advocating for an increase
in the min wage-- and he is apparently very ill. remains to be seen whether he will remain in congress
I assume Kuc and Bernie Sanders also would support an increase in the min wage (long overdue, BTW)..
what other dems in congress support this? I need names, please.
it's more than a bit difficult to see Obama as a huge supporter of Labor-- given the fact when the Scott
Wanker recall vote disaster was peaking, Obama's jet flew over/near Madison the final weekend prior to
the recall vote-- not just once, but twice.
He could spare two hours to show solidarity with Wisconsin workers fighting for their rights??
explain to me how this is "different/better" from what GW Bush would have done.

(42,714 posts)Did you miss the 2010 elections? Are you unaware that the unemployment, while improving, is still quite hight? Did you miss the fact that for the past four years, there has been an unrelenting campaign to question the legitimacy of the President?
And for those that just don't "believe" its close and that the polls are being manipulated, I'll ask: if it was that easy to do, why were the polls ever leaning in our direction and why don't they simply show a big margin for Romney. If you were trying to hide election fraud, wouldn't it be better to have a poll that showed a 5 point margin and then have your guy win by 2?

(15,435 posts)that Repukes are still hiding a lot. The fact that Sensata is getting lots of coverage & Romney not even addressing speaks volumes to me!
So close to the election AND still they lie & ignore what's really going on. I could be way off the mark, but sure seems very fishy to me. I'm still fearful that they have something up their sleeves. Could be that I live in Florida, but all the same these numbers shouldn't be this close!
I heard a woman on C-Spam last Thursday right before I went in for rotator cuff surgery saying she's voting for Romney because she doesn't want to have women here wearing BURKAS!
The subject of conversation was for women only, and 9 out of 10 said they were for Romney for some really, really stupid comments! Hardly a word about 47% or women's issues in particular!
BURKAS?? Really, even my husband was shocked.
I don't put ANYTHING PAST Repukes!! Too close in polls & too much ignorance!
