2016 Postmortem

The danger to our military families posed by having a man in the White House whose knowledge of the world seems to only extend to avoiding military service, tax shelters, investing in Chinese sweat shops and a stint as a missionary in France, comes from the fact that to be a good Mormon one has to be jingoistic and combative about foreign policy. So if he's elected let's pray Romney isn't a good Mormon! Let's hope he's faking it!
Bill Maher said: "In 100 years this country will be Mormon. It's a stupid religion and a stupid country. They were made for each other." I hope Maher's wrong. However one proof that he's right about our stupidity is that we Americans debate the impact Romney may have on the economy while ignoring his unique Mormon-inspired potential to get Marines like my son killed.

that all these rabid evangelicals who have always denounced Mormons and Mormonism as evil, and false doctrine, and false Christianity, are now suffering Romnesia about their past stance, because President Obama is just oh-so-evil.
And everybody knows God forgives liars as long as they're Republican.

(38 posts)This board is full of ugly anti-Mormon sentiment lately. There are lots of liberal Mormons (ask Harry Reid). We don't need to demonize a religion.

"Smith ran for president in 1844 as an independent commander in chief of an army of God advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government in favor of a Mormon-ruled theocracy"
You think that idea is gone?

(38 posts)If it ever even really existed (a fact disputed by the mormon church).
As a Catholic, I certainly don't want to be held accountable for the decisions of Constantine (or multiple other popes and church leaders). Closer to home, I don't want to be accountable for the deplorable racist and sexist actions of many democrats of the 19th and 20th centuries.
I hold up Harry Reid as an excellent disciple of Mormons. I have Mormon friends and neighbors, and they are good people. I won't demonize them because my magic man in the sky is different than theirs. I have been made ill seeing members of my party stooping to these levels. We are supposed to be above this, right?

(50,560 posts)If 3M wasn't already a registered trademark the GOP candidate would start a new religion called that...it would mean More Money for Mitt.
Anything Mormonlike Romney does is a shield to hide his true intention of owning all the money in the world. If they make a new Batman movie Romney could play himself as a villain with a machine in an armored car...he just parks outside a business, pushes a button and it soaks up the wealth, sells all its assets and fires all the employees.(Which is what Romney really did at Bain Capital but a big fancy machine would make it fun for the paying crowd.)
