(145,554 posts)While this article is a little dated, no one has seen any evidence of the so-called Sanders revolution https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/02/10/sorry-bernie-sanders-there-is-zero-evidence-of-your-political-revolution-yet/
To succeed, Sanders might have to drive Americans who don't normally participate to the polls. Unfortunately for him, groups who usually do not vote did not turn out in unusually large numbers in New Hampshire, according to exit polling data.
https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=1484
...As for Sanders, he credited his victory to turnout. "Because of a huge voter turnout -- and I say huge -- we won," he said in his speech declaring victory, dropping the "h" in "huge." "We harnessed the energy, and the excitement that the Democratic party will need to succeed in November."
In fact, Sanders won by persuading many habitual Democratic primary voters to support him. With 95 percent of precincts reporting their results as of Wednesday morning, just 241,000 ballots had been cast in the Democratic primary, fewer than the 268,000 projected by New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner last week. Nearly 289,000 voters cast ballots in the state's Democratic primary in 2008.
To be sure, the general election is still seven months away. Ordinary Americans might be paying little attention to the campaign at this point, and if Sanders wins the nomination, he'll have the help of the Democratic Party apparatus in registering new voters. The political revolution hasn't started, though, at least not yet.
Without this revolution, I am not sure how Sanders proposes to advance his unrealistic agenda

(20,709 posts)But, in general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade.
Substitute "Trump" for "free trade" and you have the Bernie or Bust manifesto.

(20,176 posts)I'm willing to give anybody talking shit to Huerta praise...more than any of her critics, she has outed herself as an ugly piece of work unworthy of support and sublimely worthy of contempt.
Who was the last Democrat running for President not named Clinton she didn't attack? She attacked Obama in 2008, Dean and Kerry in 2004, Sanders in 2016...you'd think she'd have stopped long enough to notice that Bill Clinton was terrible for union farmworkers and Hillary's proposals & past cheerleading for FTAs means she'd likely be even worse.
I don't care what she did years ago with Chavez...she's a nasty racist, sexist troll willing to attack her own allies and supporters (and those of farm workers and UFW membership) to advance her own personal interests and opinions. It's interesting that she's so vocal about her opinions and attacks until someone proves they're bullshit, then she shuts the hell up. She doesn't even bother trying to defend them...she knows she's totalmente lleno de mierda.
With leaders like Dolores Huerta, neither progressives or labor needs enemies.

lunamagica
(9,967 posts)absurd things I've ever read. The woman has been working hard her entire life. Out of law school, instead of taking a cushy job, she worked for the Children's defense fund.
She has been an extremely popular senator of one of the biggest, most complex, populated and diverse states in the country. Then she was Sec. of State.
Calling Hillary a Dilettante is rich coming from a Sanders supporter, A man who went from odd job to odd job until he was 40 years old, a man who never even voted in his life before he was 40 -and then he voted only to vote for himself, a man who's a Senator of one of the smallest, less populated, less diverse states in the country.
Get real!
Susan Sarandon really comes across as someone who has been educated about Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton strictly through internet memes and Facebook.
Anyone know if the employees at her ping pong club (Spin) are paid the 15 dollar minimum wage that she advocates?

How funny that it takes a woman who became famous in-part for driving off a cliff in a movie to call them on it.
Note that these are the same people that claim it will be our faults if the majority of Americans reject Hillary for the terrible candidate and terrible human being that she really is...because clearly such a loss will be our faults for not believing in Hillary hard enough (Let's call that what it is...a "Tinkerbell" candidacy.), not Hillary's for being a terrible candidate who has twice proven she also runs a terrible campaign and has no values she won't compromise to win.

(6,960 posts)There was nothing inflammatory in Susan's responses. HRC supporters distort Susan's words much as her campaign does Bernie's tone.
The take home message from the interview: consistency and right side of history. Also, HRC is bought by frackers and promotes fracking worldwide while stateside, corporations can frack on private land (think small farms/farmers). What a slick firm of corporate eminent domain. People know that HRC does not have their backs!
Susan made some excellent points, all lost on the HRC camp because of vitriol and general hatred of Susan... But haters gotta hate
