Early Vote report from Iowa 10/22/12

from a Daily Kos Diary:

Here are the numbers for the absentee ballot requests:

Dems 224,676 (45.28%)
Reps 152,877 (30.81%)
Inds 118,124 (23.80%)
Oth 548 (negligible)

TOTAL 496,225

Here are the new ballot requests since the last report:

Dems +6,712
Reps +5,765
Inds +5,993

This is the fifth straight report in which Democrats outstripped Republicans in absentee ballot requests. In this report, we lead ballot requests by about 950. In the last report, we led in ballot requests by about 600. Two reports ago, we led by only 300. This is a positive trend.

And now, here are the numbers for actual ballots cast:

Dems 155,089 (48.07%)
Reps 99,680 (30.89%)
Inds 67,553 (20.94%)
Oth 342 (negligible)

TOTAL 322,664

Here are the ballots cast since the previous daily report:

Dems +7,855
Reps +7,608
Inds +5,720

Republicans got within about 200 ballots of Democrats three reports ago. Two reports ago, Democrats bested them by over 300. In the last report, Democrats cast about 800 more ballots than Republicans. But in this report, Democrats are ahead by only about 250 ballots cast. But it warrants repeating that Democrats have cast more ballots than Republicans in every single daily report since early voting began. Could that be changing? Tomorrow's report should enlighten us.

These numbers are close to 2008 - one week or so later. So this is great news. Not worried about Iowa.
