Related: About this forumWord is Sanders is ahead at the Nevada Clark County Convention...
Also heard that because of this the Clinton establishment is trying to do motions to delay the caucus 4 hrs in hopes some Sanders delegates might leave
If he flips Clark County I think that means he'll win the state

(2,353 posts)First they had preregistration yesterday and they were telling Sanders delegates they did not need to attend the convention today while telling Hillary supporters they did (via flyers).
Luckily the Sanders camp had a massive text banking effort to make sure all Sanders delegates were aware of the correct rules.
Next they booted a Fair and objective Sanders supporter on the delegate validation committee and the goal was to convert all Sanders delegates to alternates giving Clinton 100% of the vote. They did get the Sanders supporter off the committee but did not succeed in changing Sanders delegates
Now they are trying to delay and delay.... Disgusting and why the DNC is almost dead. DNC has lost so many elected positions across the country and was out of money as recent as August of last year

And the Hillary folk think we're all just whining losers.

(23,156 posts)If Hillary delegates aren't very enthusiastic, that's sad. And if they don't show up and Sanders gets more delegates to the Convention, that's GREAT for him.

(24,411 posts)of the caucuses.
And what you point out is exactly right. As I just mentioned below, in our "second phase" which is the County Convention in Iowa--117 Hillary delegates did not show up for Hillary. This happened three weeks ago.
If this is happening in Nevada, I think this signals that she is losing enthusiasm and momentum.
If you're a delegate, you show up. If your counts have gone down that means that people didn't care enough to show up for you, or they defected to Bernie.
Bernie does not have these problems, thus far, as these next phases of the caucuses happen.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)Clinton originally won Polk County in Iowa the night of the Iowa caucuses.
The day of the Polk County convention 117 of Hillary's delegates didn't bother to show up. Polk County is the most populous County in Iowa, so this was a big deal.
Our first count was Sanders 532; Clinton 519.
That did not go over well and mayhem ensued.
Long story short--we were kept there for 12 and a half hours. Counting, recounting, delaying.
The Clinton camp will do whatever it takes to win.
Final Count at the Polk County Convention that day was: Clinton 511; sanders 503. Clinton prevailed. Yahoo for dirty tricks and dishonesty.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)can't bother to show up for the county convention, her support is incredibly weak.
I think it was a DUer in Alaska who reported on his caucus having difficulty persuading one of the Hillary supporters there to actually become a delegate for her, although in the end someone came through.
And, if after 12 1/2 hours only 30 or so delegates out of more than a thousand gave up and left, that's actually pretty impressive.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)before the counting was finished. There were so many counts and delays that day, it's not surprising that some would have left. They were told that they could leave!
The Bernie Chairperson actually caught the Hillary Chairperson telling Bernie Sanders supporters--at the Polk County Convention--that the process was finished and they could go ahead and leave.
Here is the video of the Bernie Chairperson briefly discussing this.
The Bernie people all met in the atrium and made a pact that we would not leave. We were on fire. Our chairpeople told us, in the atrium that the Clinton people were delaying and playing games, so we would be worn down and eventually leave (there is video of us being told this, as well).
Most delegates there were new to the process. We don't know who the players are. So, when someone who is in charge tells you that you can go ahead and go--I guess you go. Very state state of affairs that they did this.

(23,156 posts)as many Hillary delegates left as did Bernie delegates.
So they didn't accomplish what they hoped to.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)the Hillary people did get the desired result.
First and final count of the day for Hillary: 519/511
First and final count of the day for Bernie: 532/511
Hillary lost 8.
Bernie lost 21.
Bernie was ahead by 13 at the first count; Bernie was behind by 8 at the final count.

(24,411 posts)Most people arrived early in the morning. I was there at 7:30 a.m., as were many delegates.
We'll never know why some left.
Throughout the day, Hillary lost 8; Bernie lost 29.
As noted in another post in this thread, the Bernie Chairperson caught the Hillary Chairperson out in the hallway, telling Bernie supporters that they were done for the day and that they could leave.
Many are wondering if this isn't why the Bernie counts decreased.
There is an effort underway to find those early-departing Bernie delegates who were told that they could leave.

Will be interesting to see how these counts go in other caucus states.
Seems like many Hillary supporters are flaking. The results in Clark County, NV were stunning.
Best of luck to you on the 17th!

(24,411 posts)but delegates can defect and change their alliance.
We had a few Hillary supporters come to the Bernie camp the day of our County Convention in Iowa.
With Clinton losing delegates in this particular County Convention in Nevada--it means that they just didn't bother to show up for her; or they defected to Bernie.

(8,352 posts)I will never vote for a candidate in any party whose supporters are such blatant cheaters.
I expect this shit from the right after the FL 2000 debacle. That Clinton supporters here and elsewhere refuse to condemn this speaks volumes to their character or lack thereof.
I can not take seriously anyone who supports these types of banana republic games.

(251 posts)Convention here in Reno went well, 306 delegates for Sanders, 215 delegates for Hillary.
We had a number of news crews on site and posting to their websites, I'm surprised Vegas local news doesn't seem to be reporting anything.
GeorgiaPeanuts
(2,353 posts)Guy on Reddit says they are currently counting the votes and that supposedly the convention will end soon as a result. I'm skeptical especially if Bernie is leading, they'll probably try to use more procedural things to delay it again
Also funny how you never hear a peep out of Hillary supporters in these posts about undemocratic actions of their campaign

My friend said that she is surrounded by people who were delegates, but when they showed up were told they were alternates. She also said a lot of people have left because of the delays.

(24,411 posts)Bernie was ahead in Polk County, Iowa. Same thing.
I wouldn't get too happy about Bernie being ahead on the first county, in Clark County.
We were happy in Polk County when we were ahead 532 delegates to Clinton's 519.
At the end of the day, she had more delegates.
Someone needs to communicate to this group to STICK TOGETHER. One of the Bernie leaders there need to tell them NOT TO LEAVE, even if a Chair or a leader tells them to. Don't do it.
I hope that Clark County delegates don't get stuck at their convention for 12 1/2 hours like we did in Iowa. I hope they do their business and that it goes well.
However, all of those Bernie delegates should be braced for a long very long day.

(20,582 posts)but how in holy hell do they get away with this?! Can Bernie's campaign or even a caucus person or voter take them to court for it?
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)when the Clinton camp did this to us, that the Clinton camp followed all of the rules.
And they did.
There is no rule against counting and recounting. There is no rule against anything they did.
Early in the day at our County Convention--after the first count--we were told that the Clinton camp was challenging the credentials of our delegates. The Clinton camp was suggesting that some of our Bernie delegates did not have proper credentials. So, we had to file into the atrium (we had been sitting in an auditorium). All 532 of us had to walk back in to the auditorium--one by one--and have our credentials checked by a Hillary supporter. This took about 2 hours.
All of our credentials checked out. Not one problem found. Everyone was legit.
We were told, in the auditorium--that if we didn't submit to the credential check, that the Hillary people would challenge the initial count in court. That's what our leaders told us.
polly7
(20,582 posts)Someone needs to make new rules that make sense, imo. Doesn't even seem legal that any voting stunt of any kind can be gotten away with.

(24,411 posts)Is that correct?
It depends on how things went in the other counties today.
Look forward to seeing final counts of all Nevada counties.
Looks like Bernie is ahead in Clark County by 600+ delegates. That is very good news!!

(7,820 posts)She "won" Nevada by winning Clark County. If he flipped that he flipped the state.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)I would like nothing better than to see Nevada flipped for Bernie.
I hope that some diligent reporter from NV will write a decent, accurate article that explains all of this.
I read that in the Nevada caucuses, they elected 12,359 total delegates in the state.
At Clark County today, here were the final numbers (as reported on DU, please someone correct if I'm wrong)
Bernie 2,964
Hillary 2386
So...looks like 43.2 percent of the delegates in Nevada are from Clark County. That is a big chunk.
Considering that Hillary won Clark County 52-47 percentage points, that is a major swing in support for Bernie. If my math is correct, Bernie won Clark County with 55 percent.
So, that's an 8 percent increase for Bernie. Stunning!
TDale313
(7,820 posts)We'll see what happens, but it could definitely give Bernie some more delegates. Can you imagine where this race would be if he'd been declared the winner in Iowa and Nevada when those votes happened? (Yes, I still think it's likely he won Iowa. And she won the Caucuses in NV but now it looks Bernie will likely gain more pledged delegates there)
