2016 Postmortem

...is hilarious.
I think "token gate" is my favorite. Particularly from supporters of a candidate who freely admits she's exclusively used a private driver for over 20 years.
Classic Clinton.
flamingdem
(39,319 posts)but seriously Bernie has not taken the subway for a loong time.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)I'd probably say "token" too.
flamingdem
(39,319 posts)when he visits NY. Or drives as I used to do when I lived in Vermont and visited NY. What's a few dents from NY driving and parking when you already have damage from ice and snow.
BernieforPres2016
(3,017 posts)I looked it up and they only stopped taking tokens in 2003. Bernie hasn't lived or worked in NYC for over 50 years. Does anybody think he is taking the subway as a Presidential candidate with Secret Security protection in tow? They wouldn't allow it even if he wanted to.
When the Daily News guy asked Bernie about the subways and Bernie said he knew his way around, I'm guessing he meant that he could still tell you what stops he took when he was growing up in Brooklyn.
How desperate for an issue and how empty does your campaign have to be to resort to this?

Rosalind Carter also has not driven since 1976 -- is that a problem for you?

(6,280 posts)Provide a perfectly good explanation as to why she has drivers and hasn't driven in such a long time and they're so wrapped up in their feeding frenzy they just ignore it. It's somehow surreal. You just can't hardly believe it's happening.

beedle
(1,235 posts)so he has a similar perfectly good explanation for not being familiar with the 'modern' NYC subway system (people are actually saying that they indeed do still sell tokens.)
Of course, you are right though, he's not a real New Yorker like Hillary with her SS escort ... can't be a real authentic New Yorker if you don't even have a Secret Service escort.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)Something so mundane as who's driving and who's not driving has Bernie supporters in a frenzy like sharks that smell blood in the water. It just amazes the shit out of me what gets you guys worked up to the point that it turns into a shit-slinging fest. Is it something in the water over in the Bernie group? It's okay though. Go ahead and have your fun while you can.

cosmicone
(11,014 posts)But no ... he didn't say that. He lied instead.
What exactly was his 'lie'?
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)beedle
(1,235 posts)He said he rode a subway last year, and he did.
He was later asked how do you ride the subway, and that's where he made the 'token' comment .. that was a 'mistake', not a lie.
Maybe he just used the most 'generic' term -- people who most of their lives growing up in NYC are probably used to useing the term 'token' when using the subway? Maybe he used more than one subway in the last year as he made his way around the country and just didn't remember which ones you can use coins, vs tokens, vs passes, etc.
It's not like he claimed he road the subway under sniper fire ... oh, but that would be no big deal for someone like you, would it?

If you have been in NYC many times and ridden the subway many times, how the hell are you supposed to remember that?
I've been ridden the NYC subway many times, but I cannot tell you how I did so or exactly the last time I did so unprompted because it was years ago and I have ridden the subway in many different places since.

(49 posts)Yes, I remember the tokens, and its eventual transition to the MetroCard. I even remember that there was a way to kink the MetroCard to get free rides (I saw people selling Metrocards with kinks like that for $5 on the streets). I don't remember when MTA finally fixed the kink bug, but I've been paying on my MetroCard and still carry one around in my wallet, even though I haven't been to New York for awhile. Yes, they do expire, but they do still carry value (if there is money) and very easy to transfer the value to a new card.

(10,786 posts)Clinton is simply the product the evolutionary pressure of our wholly corrupt pay-to-play political system.
It is really not her fault that most Democratic voters have finally woken up to that fact. She built her campaign to win by the old rules. Now we have finally realized that we have to change those rules if we ever hope to become the country we want to become.

They don't fucking care. Hillary is queen.
They are making it really difficult for me to support Secy Clinton in November if she gets the nod. My only hope is that something will intervene to protect us all from such a calamity. Like Bernie getting the nod.
All the national polls show that Bernie wins hugely against any putative GOP nominee, and Hillary... not so much. The reason? She does not do well with independents and Bernie does. In case anybody's paying attention, the independents are how one wins.
Hillary's nomination means that we lose in November.

Also - hilariously, it is like a game to me at this point - when I ask why is it okay for Debbie DINO to openly support her GOP cronies down here, against Democrats, I have never gotten an answer. Never. Nunca. Jamais. Never.
So I don't take them seriously. Especially the ponderously verbose ones and the authoritarian ones.
