Would love to hear from New Yorkers

Given that Hillary was a Senator from New York through expedient political triangulation, she also spent her formative years in Illinois, Massachusetts and Arkansas.

Do the people of New York consider her one of their own or is she considered a carpetbagger?

From Websters Dictionary:

Carpetbagger - b. a political candidate who runs for office in a place where he or she has lived only for a short time

She does have a lot of ties here to Wall Street banksters and to various party insiders (including our confused mayor), but to regular people? Whether or not they will vote for her, I don't think most ordinary people here think of her as a New Yorker, at all! I would say the only time she is around is for her fancy fundraisers.

This used to be Rangel's district but they redrew it to Nadler in 2010.
Clinton moved to Chappaqua from DC, a high profile politician gaining a lot of sympathy after the Monica and Impeachment chapters of her husband's final years.
When Hill was in office she was eloquent and had her finger on the pulse of the state, especially as far as the 9/11, Afghan/Iraq/terror retaliation syndrome.
She paid lip service to the Homeland Security problem, but supported FISA surveillance and data collection by the NSA.
She tried to bring manufacturing to the state, but a lot of it was weapons: Lockheed, Northrup, &c.
Everything she said or did was successful in keeping her on a path to her 2008 run.
She's a great speaker, but she hangs out with too many millionaires for my taste.
One thing's for sure: her career comes first and the issues come second.

He's not from Vermont, he spends so little time there. And as a Senator he spends most of his time in Washington DC, one would think.

88. Hillary fits the actual definition of carpetbagger. Bernie does not.

How would you fit Bernie into that definition?

89. Yes he does. Moved to VT in '68; ran for frickin' Governor in '72.

And isn't it interesting that VT's other Senator, Patrick Leahy, has endorsed Hillary Clinton.

Really, the old saying is appropriate: Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. The Bernie people seem to have a lot of stones.

From Websters online:

Carpetbagger - a political candidate who runs for office in a place where he or she has lived only for a short time

So he lives there four years and runs for office.

How long did Hillary live in New York before Schumer gave her the Senate seat?

a lotto winner, a subway rat that drags a pizza slice down stairs or a frumpy old man on a quixotic journey to become president. Never forget the battle cry of the 73' Mets: YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!! (They made it to the World Series only to get beaten by the Oakland A's). I just don't see New Yorkers missing out on a chance to be part of the story.

But NYC is one thing. Long Island and upstate are different beasts. I think Hillary hold her own in these areas.

I agree with a previous post that no one gives a darn about carpetbagging. If you ever notice, the most passionate New Yorkers are those who came from elsewhere and made the city their own. That said, I believe it really comes down to authenticity. And I think Bernie wins hands down in this department.

FYI, Willie Mays, the "Say Hey" kid was in outfield for the 73 Mets!

in order to live somewhere and call yourself a local ('New Yorker', 'San Franciscan', 'Atlantan', etc.), in the popular imagination.

So yes, she's a New Yorker - not a native one, but then as DanTex said, most of us probably aren't natives here either.

Doesn't matter - she won the Senate seat ONLY because of Bill. She seems like a nice person, but not a very good Democrat, and incompetent and ineffective when given the responsibility to operate the levers of power.

They were born and raised in the Bronx.

Both plan on voting for Bernie in the primary and plan to sit out the election if Hillary is the candidate.

My Mom voted for her as Senator the first time, but after she voted for the Iraq war, she wrote her off forever.
