Bernie Wins Wisconsin on Honesty and Inspiration; Gets Shamed on Cover of New York Paper

Talk about political shenanigans or conspiracies, you also need to talk about the roles of propaganda and disinformation. To wit...

The Big Lie:

The above would represent libel of a private individual, but NOT of a public figure.

Here's the Whole Truth:

Bernie Wins Wisconsin on Honesty and Inspiration; Gets Shamed on Cover of New York Paper

By Pam Martens and Russ Martens
Wall Street on Parade: April 6, 2016

According to ABC exit polls, Senator Bernie Sanders big win of 56.5 percent to Hillary Clinton’s 43.1 percent in the Democratic primary yesterday in Wisconsin was fueled by voters belief in his honesty, his ability to inspire and confidence that he can improve the economy. But the very day that Sanders should be enjoying that big win, the New York Daily News has seen fit to devote its full front cover of today’s newspaper to shaming Sanders.

What did Sanders do to infuriate the New York Daily News? Absolutely nothing. The newspaper has twisted an interview its editorial board conducted with Sanders on April 1 into a pretzel to come up with a headline screaming that Sanders “callously defends gunmakers” against the relatives of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting, who are attempting to sue the gun manufacturer for selling the assault weapon that killed the children and school staff.

What Sanders actually said in that interview is that (1) he would vote to ban assault weapons like the one used in Sandy Hook; (2) he supports suing gun manufacturers if they knowingly sell a gun to people exhibiting suspicious behavior; (3) he would “significantly strengthen and expand the instant background check,” (4) “do away with the gun show loophole, where people now are buying guns from unlicensed dealers,” and (5) “do away with the straw man provision, where you can buy a gun legally and then sell it to somebody who’s a criminal.” (Read the full transcript here.)

SNIP...

Clearly, Wisconsin Democrats and Independents who handed Sanders a 13 point victory over Clinton want experience infused with a track record of honesty. According to ABC exit polls, 90 percent of voters in yesterday’s Democratic primary “identified Sanders as honest and trustworthy” versus “57 percent who said the same about Clinton.”

The ABC exit poll also found that “Three-quarters of Democratic primary voters in Wisconsin are worried about the direction of the economy. Nearly four in 10 expect life for the next generation of Americans to be worse than life today, vs. only a third who think it’ll be better.”

15. Bernie Sanders May Hear the Word ‘Socialist’ More, From Democrats

Bernie Sanders is expected to draw large crowds of young people as he campaigns with the actors Mark Ruffalo and Susan Sarandon in Brooklyn on Friday afternoon, but he has not exactly received the warmest of welcomes from the borough’s political leaders.

In the middle of an intensifying fight with Hillary Clinton over the Vermont senator and native Brooklynite’s suggestion that she is unqualified to be president, Representative Hakeem Jeffries, the Brooklyn congressman and Clinton supporter, released a statement on Thursday calling Mr. Sanders a “gun-loving socialist with zero foreign policy experience.”

While Republicans rarely pass up the opportunity to disparage Mr. Sanders as a socialist, the statement by Mr. Jeffries, who is a rising star in New York Democratic politics, coupled with Mrs. Clinton herself calling him a “relatively new Democrat,” suggests that a new line of attack may be opening against the self-described democratic socialist.

But Mr. Sanders has never made a secret of his socialist ideology.

PS: Thank you for the heads-up on today's NYT, amborin. I'll save them time: "Comrade Bernie."

Evidence can be found in their continued, coordinated repetition of lies. I am really sad for those who put loyalty to one of the party's brands over respect for what the party stands for.

I look at Clinton's corporate ties, and then I look at corporate-owned hit pieces like this and see apples and apples. I like Bernie because he's the only candidate in my voting memory to talk about things that would genuinely make my life and the lives of my family members better. I LIKE Bernie.

But now, he's a misogynist, racist, white-supremacist, elitist that wants to give free stuff to people who are naive enough to support him?

FUCK THAT SHIT.

So, Hillary...scorched earth? Throw everything including the kitchen sink?

And only when you've sewn up the nomination will you worry about unifying the party?

...

THAT'S TOO LATE. OR IT WILL BE FOR ME.

As of right now, my feeling is that if the unfortunate situation occurs that she is our Democratic nominee, the ONLY way I will vote for her is if my state is polling close enough that it could go either way AND that the potential loss of those electoral college votes in my state would have a negative impact on the overall outcome of the election.

If it's close, I will be wearing a clothespin on my nose in the election booth and encouraging others to do the same.

Everything he's done in his whole political career, even starting as a university student, has been all about helping others, getting bills passed and working non-stop as a servant to the public. This good man ... who has never hurt a soul by action, greed, being influenced by anything other than his own morals, being slimed in the ugliest, most pathetic ways. I hope all those years have fighting republicans have toughened him up when it comes to dirty tricks and outright lies ... but this has got to hurt at least a bit. It's just fucking sad to see.

Nothing but Father Time will stop him. He has been his own man for his whole life. He got arrested at the University of Chicago and kept on going. He ran for statewide office in Vermont and barely got any votes. He won his first election as mayor of Burlington by 10 votes in an upset when nobody thought he had a chance. He has fought in the House and Senate for 25 years as the country went in the opposite direction while he was a voice of sanity warning of the consequences. This crap he is getting from the Clinton campaign and the media gets us down but I'm sure for him it is little more than a speed bump. It probably gets under his skin for a few minutes and then he moves past it. He has been dealing with this kind of bullshit for over 30 years and he keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. He is a true American hero, and I would hope that even people who don't agree with his views can look at him and appreciate the rare politician who has a set of principles, speaks his mind, and is not corrupt.

"Let's move on," I thought.

Saw Bernie "interviewed" about it and his expression showed a hurt that was impossible to hide before returning to his "OK, let's discuss" mode.

So, I copied and pasted. The record needs to be clear.
