2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy day started today being told Sanders was invited to meet the Pope.
The question seems to be why Clinton supporters have so many threads about Sanders going to a small conference of scholars at the Vatican.
That was not the issue all day long, thread after thread as we started this story with Sanders saying he was invited to meet the Pope.
How the story changes, both what the real issue was, and the story itself, following along, trying to find the truth in it.
Sanders started his day stating he was invited to meet the Pope. That wasn't/isn't true. There should be discussion calling that out, ya think?

(1,901 posts)Bernie is imploding, the media is calling him on it, and he keeps doing dumb things, and she can't figure out how to defend him without stating that he's lying or stupid.
It's been hard for BMUS. Have some compassion, these defense mechanisms and the numerous posts are how she deals with it.
Memes and gifs substitute for actual argument, which is not a strong point.
Simply encourage her to try one of her hobbies, she mentioned an interest in wine and something called extreme ironing. Apparently she's tense or something. She uses projection, so what she's accusing you of is what she's going through, and that seems like quite a lot.
We really should have some compassion, imagine what tomorrow will bring for Bernie and his lies!

130. Nope, all I've done is demolish your "arguments" with facts and dealing with
your rather angry responses. I've been telling you from the very beginning that you are indeed projecting, it's a word I taught you, a concept that you don't quite seem to get yet.
I merely replied, you just buried me in a hail of obsessive, to use your term, responses that don't address the topic I originally posted about. I find your obsession very disturbing, especially the violent, angry, threatening bits, and am quite sincerely worried about your current state. You seem to be all over the place. Angry here, lashing out there, wanting to be friends another place, but always, always the projection.
It would seem that you are confusing the issues you've displayed with regard to Bernie and his very bad day with those who are seeking to address your misconceptions. In fact you seem to be reacting rather violently to some simple facts, and judging from your posting history, this anger, the threats and the not very nice comments are your sole focus. Why just look at your posts on this thread alone, so angry, so mean and so rude!
Yes, you are indeed "unusual" and it's "familiar" because what you're doing is projecting your own behavior, that "work" you've seen is merely a reflection of your own deep anger and your own posts which are not very nice.
I've been nothing but nice to you, even when you've mocked me, abused me and threatened me (remember)?
I do believe you're finally starting to cotton onto what the concept of projection is all about.
Are you ready to actually read the original post that was just so very hard for you earlier and explain your way out of that corner you backed yourself into?
Or shall you fall back to projecting your own personal obsession and desperate need to avoid failed arguments, and make some more hypocritical allusions to how i should 'remember' the source of the hides, while ignoring that your own are visible?
I get it if you are too scared to resume an argument you lost, but the politic thing to do in such situations is to stop replying, but you seem rather unable to do that. That's very interesting.

(7,886 posts)The "Sanders lied" tactic is being pushed so strong it's kinda funny, and kinda pathetic. It's very transparent, maybe come up with an actual argument to discus and you'll get it in return, until then:
synergie
(1,901 posts)What's funny is that despite the evidence, the audio and the doubling down, so many supporters are still refusing to believe their own lying eyes and ears. I agree, it's pretty pathetic and when you can't actually come up with something to deny the undeniable reality, you paste silly pictures that don't have anything to do with the topic at hand.
It's pretty transparent when actual arguments are ignored, because those who can't answer them simply can't be bothered to read them.
BMUS tried and then gave up and ran away from argument. She started lashing out with weird threats, which showed me just how very upset she truly was.
You seem to be equally upset. I know it's hard when you can't come up with something to say when you candidate deeply disappoints you repeatedly by saying things that are demonstrably false and all you can do is post things like this and pretend that no one provided facts.
Perhaps you and BMUS can comfort each other? It seems like the both of you need some hugs.

(7,886 posts)No matter how hard you force it, the "Bernie lies" meme won't catch on. Meanwhile there are some transcripts that are still missing, and also she is shutting reporters out of her speech.
But Bernie used a colloquial term when talking about subway rides, so I guess that's bigger news, eh?
synergie
(1,901 posts)Calling his numerous lies and the doubling down he does because he's incapable of admitting that he was wrong, "memes" is just sad. No matter how hard you try to deny reality, your candidate has been exposed for what he is, an ill informed, dishonest guy who just dosn't do his homework.
Meanwhile you're desperate to believe anything that you're trying to make yet another right wing soured lunacy into a thing, yet again. I'm sorry that you follow in Bernie's footsteps and fail to read behind the headline from your favorite CON news source, quoted by Weaver to squeeze more money out of gullible rubes, I hope you didn't give too much and your gifs are boring if you have nothing to say, remain silent, pasting pointless gifs really doesn't pad your post with anything approaching substance.
It's funny how you all whine about memes but can't seem to restrain yourself from meming up every post.
I have no idea which Bernie gaffe you're talking about, but the big deal is that he still doesn't seem to understand that what he quoted was something that was never said, and that's not how quoting works, and yes LYING repeatedly and being caught doing so, especially when it shows you just didn't do your homework is a big deal.
Right wing fiction about how reporters across the street from private homes is simply pathetic, and that it's being used to fleece people people who don't know any better is proof of how low this meme obsessed campaign will go, and just how desperate they truly are.
But you just keep watching that repetitive image and cut and paste more, it's really helping your tap dance away from those scary facts you can't face!

(57,349 posts)You know like this one?:
VATICAN CITY/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was invited to speak at an April 15 Vatican event by the Vatican, a senior papal official said on Friday, denying a report that Sanders had invited himself.
"I deny that. It was not that way," Monsignor Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo told Reuters in a telephone interview while he was traveling in New York. Sorondo, a close aide to Pope Francis, is chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, which is hosting the event.
He said it was his idea to invite Sanders.
A Bloomberg report quoted Margaret Archer, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, as saying that Sanders had broken with protocol by failing to contact her office first.
"This is not true and she knows it. I invited him with her consensus," said Sorondo, who is senior to Archer.

Yes, I see why her supporters are so touchy about this story.
synergie
(1,901 posts)in a high dudgeon about this topic, as Bernie's story is exposed to be simply not true, per the Vatican. Your flurry of comments show that you're quite upset about it! Do calm down.
Yes, I have seen the actual lies, where Bernie, either got caught lying, or as you asserted, proved just how incredibly uninformed he was, and thought he was meeting with the Pope!
Who stated that he invited himself, clearly his Hillary hating buddy Sachs was the one agitating for his inclusion, without it seems, letting the president know. She was quite upset about not being consulted, and I see no proof of that consensus that the Bishop alleges, and we know how fond of truth telling those guys are, amiright?
Yeah, meanwhile Hillary will be raising money for downstream Dems and the party building that Bernie forgot he agreed to and hasn't bothered to. It's almost like she understands that to get anything done in Congress and to effect change at the local and state level, the party needs funds.
Yeah, I see why you keep projecting your own emotional upset after the past couple of days that exposed Bernie's dishonesty, his crabbiness, and his failure to actually bother getting a clue about anything before he opens his mouth.
No wonder you're so deeply upset that you're all over the threads with so many, many posts expressing your outrage in the only way you can handle it. Projection doesn't seem to helping you out much though, your upset is quite clear, despite your over use of gifs, memes and smilies.

Years it went on' such ugly abuse that was hidden and priests not held accountable were transferred to the next church to abuse more. The Catholic church kept their eyes wide SHUT!

And the right of a woman to control her own body.
I believe gay rights and gay marriage.
Unlike Hillary who fought against lgbt rights until 2013:
And supported a ban on late term abortions in the past:
LAZIO: I had a pro-choice record in the House, and I believe in a womans right to choose. I support a ban on partial-birth abortions. Senator Moynihan called it infanticide. Even former mayor Ed Koch agreed that this was too extreme a procedure. This is an area where I disagree with my opponent. My opponent opposes a ban on partial-birth abortions.
CLINTON: My opponent is wrong. I have said many times that I can support a ban on late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions, so long as the health and life of the mother is protected. Ive met women who faced this heart-wrenching decision toward the end of a pregnancy. Of course its a horrible procedure. No one would argue with that. But if your life is at stake, if your health is at stake, if the potential for having any more children is at stake, this must be a womans choice.

Bernie Sanders is going to the Vatican, the seat of the Pope, the same day Hillary Clinton is fundraising with a former Goldman Sachs executive. You cant make this stuff up.
On Friday, April 15, Bernie Sanders will travel to the Vatican to discuss the global economy and environmental sustainability at a conference on social, environmental, and economic issues, hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. Sanders will speak on his vision of a moral economy.
Pope Francis has made clear that we must overcome the globalization of indifference in order to reduce economic inequalities, stop financial corruption and protect the natural environment. That is our challenge in the United States and in the world, Sanders said in a public statement.
That same day, Hillary Clinton will be attending a fundraiser in the global financial capital of Hong Kong, hosted by Gary Gensler, her campaigns Chief Financial Officer. Gensler walked through the revolving door from Wall Street to Washingtons financial regulatory system. Prior to heading up the Commodity Futures Trading Commissions (CFTC) regulation of derivative swaps, Gensler was a partner at Goldman Sachs. The fundraiser can only be attended by those willing to donate the maximum allowable contribution of $2,700.
Sanders visit and Clintons Hong Kong fundraiser will come one day after their debate in Brooklyn, and just four days before New York Democrats vote in their states primary. Sanders trip comes at a particularly critical time, as some of the states next in line to vote are also some of the most Catholic in the United States.

A number of high-profile notables, including Elton John and Pope Francis, turned down invitations to attend the Clinton Foundation's upcoming event in New York, according to Politico.
The foundation tried to invite Pope Francis to its glitzy Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) gathering New York, and wanted to present British rock star Elton John with an award for his work to combat AIDS, but both figures declined the invitations.
The organization has been embroiled in controversies surrounding its fundraising initiatives, and the report suggests many celebrities are trying to distance themselves from the group.
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, is also stepping back from the group as she runs for the White House.
...
The foundation also wanted either Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen or French economist Thomas Piketty to deliver a presentation on income inequality, but both declined.

It was okay when the press didn't question him or look too closely at what he's saying, but those mean NYers aren't playing that way are they? And that mean old Vatican's PR guy just destroyed your hope that Bernie and the Pope would get to meet, didn't he?

Whatever I say you try to turn around, it's adorable when a toddler does it but not so much now.
Maybe that's why you support the me too! candidate who only decides on a position after the polls indicate that it's politically expedient? Some folks don't have any authenticity, they just follow the herd hoping no one will notice.
Man am I glad Bernie is original and inspiring, I can see why everyone is so jealous.
synergie
(1,901 posts)down, not everyone shares your anger and your need to put down others when you lose arguments!
It's adorable that you think that toddlers behave like you're doing, but no, dear, this is not how toddler act. What you're doing is a defense mechanism, used by those who think they know stuff, but don't and can't handle it when it's pointed out to them. It's why what you're doing is not what healthy grown ups do.
I'm truly sorry that your failed lying candidate, has actually been exposed as the "only me!" candidate and it's really just making you so very very angry! Political expediency when one is losing arguments and thinks no one is going to press them or question them is what failed and flailing candidates do! Authenticity and a lack of a moral compass is shown when one doubles down when caught in lies. I can see why you identify with Bernie so much, this is what he keeps doing, and people aren't buying that lack of a clue and lying outright and stomping out when asked hard questions is not authenticity or evidence of a moral compass. That's what people do when they don't possess either.
Lashing out in anger doesn't really solve the issue, it just draws attention to it. False accusations, and doubling down on lies is pretty sad behavior.
I'm so sorry that Bernie is not what you desperately hoped he was, and that everyone is well aware of that now, since he lied numerous times on air yesterday and will be held accountable for it tomorrow as well. It doesn't bode well for you, since you're ALREADY this angry and seemingly unable to accept reality already.
Projecting the Derangement syndrome is truly a desperate act, but I know why you feel the need to do it, I can see how it's affected you, and as I've been saying, I truly do pity you.
You can't even see that 100% of your posts are about tearing down your opponent, be it someone correcting your false beliefs with facts or the more qualified candidate. It must be awful when all that true belief is rewarded by blatant lies, one after another and then people come around and expose those lies!
And the lack of preparedness on the most basic of things, and not even Jane's sad, pathetic defense was enough for him to walk it back! How terrible you must feel to be reacting in this violent way!
I am truly sorry that your cross is so very difficult to bear, but trying to whack people with it isn't doing much to relieve you of your burden, is it?
Why dig in and continue with the hostility and the rudeness? Truly BMUS, does being mean and threatening people make you feel better? It doesn't seem so, since your posts never seem to have any positivism or lightness, just unrelenting mockery, snark, and abuse.
Who hurt you dear BMUS? And when Bernie fails you some more, is there someone to help you so that you do not hurt yourself or others?
I'm truly concerned about you,you sound so desperately unhappy and so very very angry! Do you have friends and family out there in the real world to hug you and help you when you need it?
Someone other than me, whom you seem to have latched onto with these many many many replies, all saying nothing but screaming for help.

(47,803 posts)Sanders made a straightforward announcement, without claiming he was actually going to meet the Pope.
On the View it was the host that said it....I don't think Bernie caught that. But not awful.
Then some internal spat and turf battle between officials in the Vatican was jumped on to try and disgrace and embarrass and discredit Bernie.
Then it turned out that was proven to be totally wrong, but instead of just apologizing and letting it go, people here (and elsewhere) doubled down and started twisting themselves into pretzels to keep some kind of trumped up "controversy" alive. Fishing and looking for any angle they could find to make it somehow a bad thing that Bernie was going to a conference on social and economic justice.
It became obsessive by people who just had to fond a way to turn something basically positive into a negative.
All I can conclude that it hit a nerve.

beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Unless you can prove that Bernie knew he wouldn't meet with the pope it's not a lie. Even the Vatican admits it's not out of the realm of possibility.
See how that works?
Of course I realize that compared to corkscrew landings and sniper fire this is really kind of meh but you'll have to work with it.
synergie
(1,901 posts)So you're saying that Bernie was simply so ignorant that really thought that the pope had personally invited him to an academic conference his Hillary hating buddy had convinced someone to invite him to? He truly believed that he was meeting with the pope?
You seem to be arguing that Bernie is so very uninformed and so very clueless that the poor dear keeps lying about things because he's truly deluded or doesn't have the ability or desire to read beyond headlines? How terribly presidential. That must be why he keeps on lying and keeps on failing to answer the most basic of questions, he simply doesn't know any better!
See, you made this assertion, and unless you can prove that Bernie is ignorant and far too lazy to read beyond a headline to see what was actually said before he physically quoted it in a public rally, then yes, it is a lie.
As the quote I pasted stated, the Vatican's spokesperson stated that it's not happening. Did you choose not to read that, or do I need to prove that you didn't see the words printed above, and thus are unaware that you saying things that are simply not true about what the Vatican actually said?
Yes, I see how that works, I don't think you do.
So, is Bernie a liar or is he just too ignorant, lazy and incompetent to know better? Which is it?
I mean, compared to actually reading what was pasted and providing something to support your assertion or disprove mine, all this nonsense about sniper fire is pretty much just desperate spin, right?
I look forward to seeing how you answer the argument you set up, or if you shall just deflect away as you spin desperately hoping that no one will notice that you don't quite seem to get how your own argument frame works.

(10,493 posts)Losing states badly. Missouri was just flipped, even after they tried changing the rules. And now Bernie's off to the Vatican to participate in a conference that centers on the moral responsibilities of economic, social and environmental responsibility. We know these are issues their candidate doesn't support in the same extent as Sanders or the Vatican/Pope. So of course anything positive must be negative.
The greater issue on this, they should just walk away from it. This is a fast and steady way to alienate even more voters not just now, but in the fall if she were to get the nom. Not good.
That said, I exchanged some messages with a Cruz supporters who is Catholic pro life today. She was impressed by this outreach, because these issues matter to her. (19,818 posts)who meets who? Although I think the Pope should stay out of the volatility of US politics. He didn't learn after the fiasco with that nut clerk from Kentucky, Jimmy Carter would have been a good choice.

(10,129 posts)There's the invite
There's the response to the lie that Sanders invited himself
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-vatican-idUSKCN0X5257
A Bloomberg report quoted Margaret Archer, president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, as saying that Sanders had broken with protocol by failing to contact her office first.
"This is not true and she knows it. I invited him with her consensus," said Sorondo, who is senior to Archer.
An invitation to Sanders dated March 30, which was emailed to Reuters, was signed by Sorondo and also included Archer's name.
A man senior to Archer, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social SciencesArcher is president of, tells reporters that Margaret Archer knew Sanders was invited by him. And he produced the invite.
This was backed up by a Columbia professor who helped the Vatican get in touch with Sanders
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/04/bernie-heads-to-the-vatican/477471/
Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University professor who is presenting at the event, said in a phone interview that he helped the Vatican reach out to Bernie Sanders in March, and he doesnt know why Archer alleged that the Sanders campaign initiated the gig. The academy sent the invitation, its pure and simple, he said. A lot of people in the Vatican respect him a lot. He is speaking in the same kind of moral themes that Pope Francis, and the social teachings of the Church, promote, which is a moral economy.
In another report, Sorondo said that the Pope knew Sanders was being invited.
After Margaret Archer lied about it, the Pope may well fell obligated to meet with Sanders to make up for the embarrassment of the President of an entity associated with the Vatican lying about Sanders invitation and being called out for it by Sorondo. You know, "thou shalt not bear false witness ..", the commandment the Clintons ignore all the time ...

(36,649 posts)1) His supporters are completely oblivious, or completely buy-in to the hypocrisy he's displayed
And
2) He totally crumpled within hours when he was held to the same impossible standard of conduct that Hillary has been held to every day - and survived - for 30 yrs.

He might well get that ring kissing. But, they are not gonna tell me a fake story to get him to that ring kissing. I am gonna go off the facts. No illusions for me.

(1,163 posts)It's an honor, and it makes a lot of Clinton supporters sad, I think.
I highly doubt that a picture of the two of them matters to Bernie, maybe to his campaign staff but not to him.
Your snarkiness and presumption that he would is what we call projection.
Hillary would surely have looked first to having a photo op. She is vulgar that way. (other ways, too, of course)
