Looks like the Pope is giving Bernie Sanders the cold shoulder. Bernie Sanders said that he was hoping to meet the Pope on his visit to Rome.

(369 posts)Looks like Bernie jumped the gun on the view! Caught in another blatant lie!
because the word hoping means he stated he would meet him. Insane.

(9,610 posts)As I recall, she is the one who said the Pope. Not Sanders.

(28,581 posts)On 5 April 2016 sources reported Pope Francis would visit the Greek island of Lesbos in support of the thousands of refugees who are there awaiting asylum, or who have passed through the island on their way to Europe and beyond. The pope reported that such a visit was under consideration. It was announced not long after that the pope would make a one-day visit to the island on 16 April 2016.

(1,701 posts)After all, he had to coordinate his trip with not only the Prime Minister but also the Ecumenical Patriarch, who lives in Istanbul. All three are busy men. But of course the real reason must be that the Pope doesn't want to talk to Sanders.

(3,964 posts)He went on Morning Joe and The View without knowing thwhat Pope's schedule? This whole controversy could have been avoided...

(70,270 posts)When Sanders himself tells a national audience he will meet with the pope--there is an issue.
One of hosts said to the audience--.....
Host: You're meeting with the POPE?
Bernie: "Yup" (sitting nodding)
Then the host told the audience --Pope Francis has invited Bernie sanders...Clap clap
Sanders said he was meeting with the Pope. Then when the host told the audiance he said nothing--He just nodded ...!!(very short You-tubeclip
WHOW!
PS--Sanders is NOT meeting with Pope Francis

(28,581 posts)Pope Francis will make a lightning trip to the Greek island of Lesbos on April 16, the Vatican said on Thursday, a visit aimed at supporting refugees and drawing attention to the front line of Europe's migrant crisis.

(9,313 posts)...Bernie will likely be there.
If he's flying commercial "going to the conference on the 15th" probably means flying out the 15th to attend the second day.
As geek tragedy so kindly pointed out elsewhere, there don't appear to be any commercial flights after 11 pm on the 14th (after the debate).
A meeting may be unlikely, but it's absurd to suggest the Pope decided to get out of town to avoid Bernie.
