2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSome thoughts on those who won't support the nominee ...
Let's face it, in every election there are winners and there are losers. While there are those who will harbor so much resentment that they won't think straight, the fact is that we have to accept some people won't support the nominee for reasons other than anger.
Hillary has Republican women who will vote Republican rather than vote for Bernie.
Bernie has leftist (not Social Democratic) supporters who will vote for a third party rather than vote for Hillary.
Hillary has Wall Street investors who won't vote for Bernie.
Bernie has Reagan Democrats who won't vote for Hillary.
Then there are those who are in overwhelmingly blue states or red states who will not vote for the nominee because their vote won't really matter, so they can make a statement.
But, the reality is that those Bernie or Hillary supporters who are fundamentally to the left of center in purple states (and maybe a few red ones where the nominee has a chance) will ultimately come around. Few of them, by the time the election takes place, will harbor so much resentment that they will allow a Trump or Cruz to get elected.
So, folks, despite the increasing intensity of this election, I don't think we'll have to worry in the end about progressives in critical states not turning out for the better candidate. I think all good people will come around in the end.

(12,655 posts)and predicting what they will do tends to have a backfiring effect.

I am a very good person.
I prove it with my actions.
I will not be coming around to vote for the establishment.
The establishment is destroying this country.
The establishment does not care about the struggles and hardships
of the working class, the underpaid, the unemployed, the homeless,
people of color, or the elderly.
They have proven this time and time again.
If a Republican president can not pass legislation that screws over the masses
the Democratic president steps up and gets it done.
I am sick of the establishment games.
I am sick of the establishment fraud.
I am sick of the establishment greedy bastards that are ruining this country.

(5,636 posts)... Maybe you won't be affected by whoever wins, but I think most Bernie supporters are progressive enough to understand the both Hillary and Bernie are better for immigrants, women, gays, people of color, Muslims, and other minorities who may be targeted by the right wing.
I trust the majority of PoC who are supporting Hillary to believe that they know what they're talking about, but it's always possible that your arrogance is well placed and you know better. At any rate, I think you're part of a small minority who won't play a role in the outcome of the election.

I live in the Bible belt.
I will be greatly affected if Bernie is not elected.
I live in poverty as a direct result of the establishment policies and actions.

(5,636 posts)... you're in a position to make a protest vote. But, I think Bernie (or Hillary) supporters who live in purple states will come around. Because of Nader, Bush got elected. Do you really think that was better for anyone than the policies of an establishment candidate like Gore?
