2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI did not get to meet Hillary but it was a productive day today in Sunset Park Brooklyn.
There are a lot of Democrats here. I didn't get to go her speech but we did get 40 new volunteers that will hit the streets this week in Brooklyn.
I have to say no matter what the press makes of the battle for Brooklyn the reality on the ground is there is an appreciation of both candidates but Hillary definitely has more support here.
Everything east, south, and northeast of Prospect Park of will be stronger for Hillary and the Northwest neighborhoods of Brooklyn will be stronger for Sanders. There maybe one or two areas that deviate from this but it is the best I can approximate.
The battle for Brooklyn rages on and I am proud to be a part of it.

What are the demographics (i.e., race, income, education) of the Northwest?
Thank you for your participation!

(71,265 posts)The new residenys are white, liberal, colledge educated, and doing well to ok financially. You still have long time residents there that will be more likely to vote for Clinton especially in Red Hook.

(31,849 posts)What I wouldn't pay to be in your mix. In Arizona, we're busy; b doing GOTV and registrations; but, it won't be Democratic competitive unless the G/E is HRC v trump.

(4,187 posts)Did you ask him how he is going to manage to get single-payer passed if he's elected president? Especially given that he's not supporting down-ticket candidates, and that so many of his supporters don't even vote for other Democrats on the ballot?

(10,493 posts)I don't understand that question every time it's raised. We all know Bernie draws in a segment Hillary doesn't. That's great for widening the base of the party, we need that. Too many have left over the years. Now we know what they were looking for, and we agree on some of those issues. I agree with you on Single payer/Medicare for all as well.
As for how we get those votes, it's starts right here. Look, we're agreeing. I'm sure if we try, we can find at least two more issues we agree on right now. That's a great place for us to build consensus on and work together. We're both democrats, so I'm sure we can find quite a few. But 3 is a good start.
So, what are two more issues? Social Security, free college tuition (maybe with some compromise - I'm all in for innovation purposes). Maybe it's changes in general education and testing/core reform? How about public works - that's another one I see daily. Our roads buckled
Last summer, and iDot was literally 3/4 mile up the road doing a widening project, and said there wasn't funds to fix it they dumped some filler in and left it.
Okay, so let's get to your other issue on funding down ballot. I see your concern, and I'm going to raise your awareness on this. Bernie has for years raised money for the party. He's currently in the primary phase, and when he exits that, he's already committed to helping. But the DNC also hasn't worked with him on dates the last I read (that could have changed).
Regardless, we Bernie supporters are helping fund those down ballot candidates. Many of us believe firmly in direct candidate support. I'm uncomfortable with how Clinton has done things, and it does come across as buying off state parties and delegates to me. But even still, we have local candidates here that we GOTV for, and there is a list of candidates by state at www.berniecrats.net these candidates do support Bernie's platform, and will help promote these ideas on our behalf.
More than that though. We have funded Bernie directly, and our representatives know this. Everywhere Bernie carried out districts, even if he doesn't win - that will pressure them to listen to us on issues, because we control their seat in those areas. That's not a threat, what I'm saying is hey - you want single payer, Inwant single payer. So we have the power to remind our representative to close the door to the lobbyist, because he has to represent us. So get to the table and start doing his job on behalf of us. I understand and even expect compromise (within reason), but representation will be had.
So what can we agree on?
