John McCain Stuns America And Says This Candidate Has The Best Record On Veterans Issues
April 10th, 2016 Andrew Bradford Election 2016 0 comments
When it comes to issues that involve Americas veterans, there are few people who are more respected and influential within the U.S. Congress than John McCain. McCain, who was a POW at the infamous Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War, has spent much of his time in the Senate working on issues related to healthcare, job opportunities, and benefits for those who have served their country.
And now McCain has entered the Democratic race for the White House with comments he recently made regarding Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who serves on the Veterans Affairs Committee with McCain:
McCain made his comments in response to a remark from the former Secretary of State that long delays for vets seeking treatment at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals are not a widespread problem. The Arizona Senator did not mince his words, saying of Clinton:
{The} commander-in-chief not only sends the young men and women into conflicts, but {the} commander-in-chief has an obligation, as Abraham Lincoln so eloquently stated, about our care for the widows and the wounded.

(24,411 posts)"The fact is we were able to come together and pass legislation that was nearly unanimous in both the House and the Senate, so he does have a record of advocacy for our veterans. To my knowledge, I know of no activity, legislative or otherwise, that Hillary Clinton was engaged in during her time as a United States senator." ---Senator John McCain
Interesting, considering that Hillary said such glowing things about McCain during the 2008 Democratic primary. They were a nasty hit job on Obama.
"Hillary Clinton told reporters that both she and the presumtive Republican nominee John McCain offer the experience to be ready to tackle any crisis facing the country under their watch, but Barack Obama simply offers more rhetoric. "I think you'll be able to imagine many things Senator McCain will be able to say," she said. "He's never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience. I will put forth my lifetime of experience. Senator Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002.""
Man, what a snake she is!!!

Which one is it? Bernie won't get nothing done and McCain is a liar, or That McCain is speaking candidly and Bernie will get things done.

(2,872 posts)Man, y'all live in the most insulated bubble I've ever seen. McCain's a nut, but he's a veteran; and arguably the most high profile veteran we've got right now. Unless you'd rather have Chelsea Manning or Bowe Bergdahl play subject matter expert, I'd sit down and shut up unless you have something useful to contribute to the conversation.

Disastrous for tens of thousands of veterans. And she'd do just the same as President.

7. As a senator, Clinton has won attention for working with Republicans on a variety of issues, including some from the GOP who had been political antagonists of her husband. Among others, she has partnered with Bill Frist, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, and Lindsey Graham, with whom she worked to improve healthcare for National Guard members.
8. Clinton is a member of the Transformation Advisory Group, an expert panel that advises the U.S. Joint Forces Command on issues pertaining to the different branches of the military. She is the only senator in the group.

Increased assistance for families caring for veterans. Hillary introduced the Heroes at Home Act of 2006, and fought to establish new services for military members and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries.
She successfully amended the 2007 Defense Appropriations Act to establish a traumatic brain injury family caregiver training curriculum for DOD and VA hospitals, and she championed efforts to create programs that make it easier for military family members to provide care for their loved ones.
Expanded health care coverage for Reservists and National Guard members. Hillary worked across the aisle with Senator Lindsey Graham to expand veterans access to military health insurance, ensuring that all members of the Reserves and National Guardand their familieshad access to military health benefits even when theyre not deployed.
Protected family members caring for wounded warriors. Hillary collaborated closely with Senator Chris Dodd to author and introduce new legislation that aimed to broaden protections afforded by the Family and Medical Leave Act to the family members of wounded service members. She is proud that the legislation was enacted as part of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act.
Supported survivors of fallen service members. Working with Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Hillary sponsored legislation to expand benefits afforded to surviving spouses. She and Republican Senator Chuck Hagel also introduced a bill to increase the gratuity paid to family members of fallen veterans from $12,000 to $100,000; the proposal was enacted as part of the 2005 supplemental appropriations act. Hillary also served as an honorary board member for the non-profit Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, which provides resources and support to family members of those who have died in military service.
Joined efforts to build veterans rehabilitation center. Hillary joined with Republican Senator John McCain to personally raise money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Their efforts were critical to building the Center for the Intrepid, a new $50 million state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility in San Antonio, Texas, designed specifically to help seriously wounded service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

From the article:
Clinton said Friday on MSNBCs Rachel Maddow Show that protracted wait times at veterans hospitals have not been as widespread as it has been made out to be.
She also blamed Republicans for pursuing an ideological agenda to make VA hospitals fail.
Same article:
Clinton backtracked from her comments on Monday, saying she is outraged by the delays at veterans clinics.
