I'm sure you have used the term in the exact same way at one point. I have, many times, and so does pretty much everyone else who talks honestly about political corruption.

(8,352 posts)Here is the actual quote --
"Medicare for All will never happen if we continue to elect corporate Democratic whores who are beholden to Big Pharma and the private insurance industry instead of us."
I don't disagree in the least with Dr. Song. Quid pro quo is what 'corporate whoring' is all about. It happens on the left and it happen on the right.
Instead of getting worked up over a word used in a very specific context, how about we get worked up over being one of the few civilized nations that does NOT have medical care for all of its citizens. How about we get worked up over how much Big Pharma jacks up prices here in the US on drugs that are sold elsewhere for far less. How about we get worked up over how the ACA is a huge give-away to the corporate insurance industry and we still have millions with out health insurance, we are still paying more per capita than any other nation in the world for medical services, and we are rapidly plummeting to the bottom in the world for how unhealthy our populace has become because of this.
That is much more 'not acceptable' to me than a damned word.

(4,451 posts)"Elect Democratic whores." I wonder who he was talking about?
TM99
(8,352 posts)He said congress members in another Tweet. But honestly if the quid pro quo corporate label fits?
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)You are being disingenuous when you truncate what he said to democratic whore. He said "Corporate Democratic Whore", and the important term is "corporate whore" who happen to be democrats. We do have democrats in the part who are beholden to corporations, and many people call that being a corporate whore. Whore does not just mean a female sex worker.
There are three main uses of whore...a female prostitute, a male prostitute, or the usage here which is...
debase oneself by doing something for unworthy motives, typically to make money.
The third definition is not about sex or gender, it's about just what it says, and I do think this country has become a bit too sensitive or politically correct, when valid definitions can no longer be applied and words not used because someone might try to make it about demeaning women. What about male whores? Is it only women whom we need to protect by never saying anything they might take the wrong way?

(8,175 posts)I think he was referring to more than her.
It still does not mean he wasn't using the last definition of the word.
And after looking at your transparency page, I'm wondering why you would be offended with anything ANYONE says. Seriously...this is too funny.

(1,890 posts)is plural not singular. Now I know Hillary is two-faced but you really think this was just about Hillary? No, of course you don't and please stop dropping the word "Corporate" from the quote like the guy on Twitter did. I know saying Democratic whores fits better with your narrative but he didn't say that. He said Corporate Democratic Whores. Get it right.

(154,021 posts)And the origin of the term "corporate whore"
Am amazed your ears have not come across it before
One who has sold more than their labor to the corporation; one who has forsaken personal values and constitution for corporate $$; meaning of "whore" belittled when preceded by the word corporate; person who will sell their soul for $$.
My efforts are not driven by my passion for work, but by my own gluttony, my addition to money. I have become what I once despisedforsaken myself, sacrificed my values at the corporate alter of greed. I am a corporate whore.

You know where I was introduced to the term? Oh my delicate ears. AT DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, circa 2003... it was also used by a now defunct website, a variation of it, called MEDIA WHORES ONLINE.
By the way, the term was used for George Dubya Bush at first...
Oh and it was used at Zucotti Park by OCCUPY WALL STREET.

(154,021 posts)By the way, none meant HRC by name...try reading the full statement as many times as you need to. Obviously you will need to do such a few times. I heard the exact same language at Occupy and read the same fucking language at DU. Media Whores online even used it as a fucking domain name.
But one of his surrogates compared the Rally to a Nazi rally. I doubt really you understand how ignorant and insulting that is. Or posters here are defacing the Jesus of the Bleeding heart (anti-Catholic) with the face of Bernie Sanders (blood libel). By the way, that meets community standards. So spare me.
Should Hillary supporters engage in open anti-semitism? Apparently the answer is well, yes of course.

(47,803 posts)The phrase "corporate whores" and "media whores" has been common on DU for years. as well as in the larger population. Has nothing to do specifically with Clinton or her gender.
So IMO it should not be used in the context of mainstream politics --- But also I could take this sudden surge of gentility more seriously if it were not simply being used as a cudgel against someone who has the temerity to run against Clinton in this primary.

(37,428 posts)...but I agree that when the Drooling Right has reflexively used the word "whore" against Hillary Clinton for decades, our separate point ought to be made in more elevated terms.
Women ought not to get a pass, but let's be absolutely clear about whom we're accusing of doing exactly what.
