Thu Apr 14, 2016, 01:46 AM

Who other than BNR readers and Hillary followers ready to gin up fake outrage thought the "corporate whore" comment was offensive?

It's such an overused non-sexist term, it's even on urban dictionary:

One who has sold more than their labor to the corporation; one who has forsaken personal values and constitution for corporate $$; meaning of "whore" belittled when preceded by the word “corporate”; person who will sell their soul for $$.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=corporate+whore

I also think many were offended by using "CP Time" in what amounted to a minstrel show.

Or were even outraged by it? Why do you expect others to square up to a standard you're not able to.

Now, I'm sure you're able to contort into a position where white people saying "CP Time" isn't racist. But if you're able to twist up that far, I can't fathom how you'd try to say "corporate whore" is sexist.

... other than BSers, who found the "CP Time" skit offensive. Good - we've got that out of the way.

I never said that the term "corporate whore" was sexist.

What I DO find offensive is someone running as a candidate for the Democratic Party thanking a speaker for saying that any Democrat is a "whore".

If Bernie thinks he's gaining any traction among actual Democrats by thanking someone for demeaning their party, he's free to do so. I suspect that the NY primary results will reflect just what NY Democrats think about someone who has consistently demeaned their Party, and their judgment in electing the people they have to represent them.

But of course, the usual BS excuses will be trotted out - the vote was rigged, Bernie supporters had their registrations flipped - or he would have won, but he thought going to the Vatican to deliver a ten-minute speech was more important, and thereby lost his much-touted "momentum".

Thu Apr 14, 2016, 02:26 AM

I think there's a difference between calling someone a "whore" and a "corporate whore", given it's common usage now.

I also think that people that believe that the "D" behind someone's name is magical. By the very definition I linked to in the urban dictionary, there are many democrats that are corporate whores.

One who has sold more than their labor to the corporation; one who has forsaken personal values and constitution for corporate $$; meaning of "whore" belittled when preceded by the word “corporate”; person who will sell their soul for $$.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=corporate+whore

By that definition, many believe it applies to Hillary as well.

I really don't get people that assume you can't speak ill of anyone in the party. If they truly believed that, then they should move to North Korea and get used to saying "Dear Leader" a lot, because that's basically what they're asking, just "Dear Party Member" instead.

It's a bit bizarre hearing from some about party loyalty so much so that it takes the small-d democracy and big tent aspects out of the Democratic Party completely.

it's meaning is well known when speaking of a subset of very real politicians.

Those that don't understand it's meaning and use are either deliberately trying to twist it's meaning in an attempt to disrupt, or they are too ignorant to post intelligently on a political forum, one may decide for oneself which fits which category.
