2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWould like to hear from some Jewish Democrats.
I'm a poll nerd.
I like to look at all of the demographic cross tabs.
And, where there has been religious affiliation mentioned, Hillary beats Bernie among Jewish voters.
That surprises me some since Bernie is Jewish.
I've never heard him or Hillary asked about this.
But, I do find it interesting.

(26,060 posts)But I've already been through an election where the Democratic candidate is on the record of saying he's going to raise taxes for everyone. We lost 49 states. It's really that simple. Jewish voters are like anyone else, they look at the issues and decide on a candidate that they can mostly agree with - even if they don't find them the perfect candidate AND look at who they think will do best in a general election. The republicans haven't even touched Sen Sanders so polls showing him ahead of them are meaningless. I will vote for Bernie if he's the candidate but Hillary will get my primary vote.

(2,524 posts)I'm Jewish. (I'm also Hispanic, if it matters.) I voted for Sanders, though I would not call myself a Sanders supporter as much as a Clinton critic.
If you are asking whether or not Jews would feel motivated to vote for someone because s/he would be "the first Jewish president," I would suggest that such an achievement is not terribly important to Jews. We are such a small part of the population, it does not seem important that there has never been a Jewish president. Conversely, there is always a sense of overachievement: Jewish SCOTUS justices, SOSs, etc.
Furthermore, Jewish political ambitions always focus more on justice rather than social advancement.

(23,554 posts)Most of my Jewish friends support Bernie. Some of my family support Hillary.
The funny thing is when I speak with my mom who has early to moderate alzheimer's We discuss the primaries and she starts by saying she wants to vote for Hillary because it is time for a woman. I tell her Bernie is Jewish and more liberal. Then she changes her mind and wants to vote for Bernie. The next day or an hour later, we have the exact same conversation. (BTW she did not vote in our state's primary. I didn't think her mind is sound enough to decide and it wouldn't be right for me or my brothers to coax her into voting a certain way that she won't even remember).
BTW Cheese Sandwich posted this in the video section:

The moderate and liberal voted Hillary in the primary. MIL will probably have to settle for Hillary since the Republican candidates are literally insane in her opinion. The Republican SIL is afraid people are spying on her all the time, she makes me laugh. We'll say she's in the CT party. My kids support Bernie.

One brother is a Sanders supporter, the other a Trump fanatic.
Hope this clears things up!
