2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust hung up on the DCCC
So this guy calls looking for money for the Dem Senate/House candidates and before he starts his pitch he says, "This call may be recorded for quality control purposes." My next words were, "No it won't" and I hung up.
How stupid is it to call Dems and then tell them they are going to have their conversation recorded?

(19,458 posts)They record the calls to be sure that the people they hire are doing their job correctly, and that they don't have republican plants in there.

I wouldn't worry about it.

(885 posts)It's our job. Most of the time it's for your protection in the end. What are you so afraid of saying? Always fun telling people this daily, then getting cursed out and then they ask not to have the call recorded. I have no control over that!

(9,330 posts)I worked in customer service. Calls are recorded to make sure we're doing our job right. And we have to let people know the call is being recorded because it's illegal to record conversations without the other person's knowledge.

(25,415 posts)Your calls are constantly monitored from Verizon to the cable company.
When I worked for a long distance company, my calls were regularily monitored by the quality control person and then feedback was given on how to do handle certain situations better with the customers. It was not about recording you for nefarious reasons.
Sorry, this made me chuckle a bit as I have first hand experience with this.

(34,857 posts)I worked for the Census back in 2010 and our calls were always recorded so that we could go over how we handled certain situations and whether we got off script (you couldn't, or you'd lose your job).

(25,415 posts)Or ask questions a certain way. I never enjoyed getting my calls scrutinized. I will never do customer service again. It was a thankless job. I am now on my way to earning a teaching certificate for elementary education. I would rather teach raucous classrooms full of hyper kids then do customer service again. The stories I have of customer rudeness....

(14,691 posts)I wouldn't have hung up on them for that. Recording is standard. However, I would have told them I have no money left after months of being hit up for $3, $5, $25 and $65 donations every day at each of my 4 email addresses.
