We should just stop using the word whore.

When I was growing up a guy who enjoyed sex was called a stud. A girl or woman who enjoyed sex was called a whore.

Before the Hite report and "The Feminine Mystique" sex was defined by men. Women had to protect their reputation and men had to score.

Today we understand how prehistoric that all was. Using the word whore as a derogatory term is a throwback to those barbaric days.

Is using the W word nice? Of course not. However, when used with the modifier "corporate" in political speech - to describe those who are sellouts, it is an apt description.

"corporate whore" may not be a phrase you choose to use, it's probably not something I would choose to use. But to suggest that the use of the phrase is implying that the subject is performing actual sexual acts/favors is a bit of a knew-jerk reaction - imho...

The 'n' word never had other definitions. It just means a derogatory term for a dark-skinned person.

Whore has different uses and definitions, so you can't assume what someone "meant" when they use it. You have to see the context. And the context of corporate whore is not about sex, it's about debasing yourself by doing something unworthy for money. It's about selling yourself for money, not physically, but your soul and your standards. And in the corporate sense, it means taking money from corporations and doing favors for them in return. There is nothing sexy or sexual about that.

Is that based on the term whore as a "prostitute"? Yes, but even the word prostitute has different definitions. It can be a woman selling sex for money, or it can be

a person who misuses their talents or who sacrifices their self-respect for the sake of personal or financial gain.

I was wrong in an earlier thread when I said a male prostitute is called a whore...there are a lot of other terms for that, but not typically whore...but the definition of whore relating to men is a man who is whoring himself by using prostitutes.

Now the final usage of whore that is bothering everyone here is the female whore who is not a prostitute, but a "loose" woman (meaning any woman who is not married and enjoys sex...well I guess that makes me a whore ). And in no way is corporate whore based on that definition.

So those of you who want to always read this word in the context of a loose woman are surely free to do so (and some of you have to turn everything into an attack on women), but in today's attitude toward sex, I don't even think it applies any more, and it is pretty obvious that it's usage in this context is not about "loose women". You can stop using it yourself, but I don't think you have the right to censor everyone else's use of the word just because you tend to be hyper sensitive about it.

BTW, I tried to find a synonym for corporate whore that might offend you less...and I can't find one. So sorry...you are not going to stop it's use.

But then, this isn't really even about the use of this word, is it? This is about trying to bash Bernie again.

a "whore" is one thing, to call them a "corporate whore" is a completely different thing.

The first suggests that sex is involved - by definition.

The second has nothing to do with sex - by definition.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has been called a "whore" ever since she boldly and courageously refused to be the always-polite, always-smiling, legs-always-crossed First Lady that has always been expected of the President's wife ("Stay in the kitchen, dear...the men are talking!" ). She has sacrificed so, so much in terms of popularity and "likability" for that. Republicans and misogynists of all political stripes have always hated her for it. That a disturbing number of Sanders supporter utterly refuse to appreciate this can only mean either two things: one, they don't "get it" at all; or two, they do get it and it is for exactly that reason why they hate Hillary.
