Bernie Sanders Repudiates ‘Whores’ Comment At His Rally But The Damage Is Done

By Jason Easley

<...>

The Sanders campaign repudiated the language used by Dr. Song in a tweet.

<...>

Dr. Song sounded like an insensitive extremist, and that, in a nutshell, is the overarching problem that the Sanders campaign is facing. In open primaries, Independents can be courted with outsider rhetoric. In a series of closed Democratic primaries, in a party where women are the majority, comments like Dr. Song’s lose votes for the candidates that they support.

Song was criticizing Democrats in a closed Democratic primary. Needless to say, this is not a winning strategy. His comments only fanned the doubts of Democrats who believe that Sen. Sanders is not a real Democrat.

In practical terms, Bernie Sanders isn’t going to win closed Democratic primaries without Democratic votes. It is also not good to enrage the very superdelegates that Sen. Sanders needs if he is going to win the Democratic nomination by calling them corporate whores.

It is good that the Sanders campaign repudiated the use the word whores, but the damage has already been done. The dominant and only headline coming out of the rally should have been about the huge crowd of enthusiastic supporters for Sanders. Instead, Sanders will almost definitely be asked about Song’s comments at tonight’s Democratic debate.

at least to me, because of her cozy relationship with the corporate $, she seems to many to many to be beholden to them. If her image and name comes to mind when this unpleasant phrase is mentioned than it seems like it is her image and it is sticking. That isn't good for her.

More brow-furrowed hand wringing from the whine brigade that positions every Bernie* move as a four-alarm, apocalyptic disaster that will surely alter the orbit of the Earth.

*or the moves of his surrogates, supporters, relatives, former elementary school classmates, coworkers, previous teachers, former roommates, as well as current tailors, hairdressers, gardeners, physicians, dentists, psychics and neighbors.

the media barely covered the rally....as far as Dr. Song's unusual choice of phrase....it was a gift for anyone looking for a gotcha moment to detract from Bernie's historic rally. Each side of this primary have had gotcha moments with surrogates...have you forgotten Secretary Albright's comments about a woman's special place in hell if they did not support Clinton? because, as a woman, I haven't...to my knowledge Secretary Clinton never apologized ...Bernie said that the comment was unfortunate and inappropriate and it was.....by the way, Dr. Song is married to Lisa Ling who is a supporter of Hillary and she has also apologized for her husbands unfortunate choice of words....do you want to keep beating her up too?????....time to move on.

Because they demonstrate so clearly that the Hillary campaign will do anything, including using underhanded tactics, to win. Thank you so much for reminding me why I'm not supporting your candidate.

When the conversation is "Everybody knows she trades influence for Wall Street cash, but I object to such an inartful term." you're kinda screwn.
