2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCNN just reported Clinton internal polling shows tighter race...
According to CNN the Clinton campaign their internal polling shows a much tighter race, and in response they are going to come out with negative ads on Bernie centered on the NYDN interview. It's odd that national polling and internal polling shows Bernie surging, yet NY polls show a different story
GO BERNIE GO GO GO!

(1,511 posts)Do you have a link for this one? The other is behind a pay wall so I can look at the demographs to see the way they are reading their data. I do think the surge of constant negatives are tell.

(2,353 posts)It was just on CNN recently, I'll have to wait to see if someone recorded it and puts it on youtube. Obviously they don't share the exact numbers though. But this reminds me of Michigan all over again.

(1,511 posts)It has seemed to show a good trend for Bernie most of the times they said that. But I could also see them trying this to try and lure us in, and boom Admiral Akbared!

(1,890 posts)Are they trying to bait Bernie into going negative at the debate? I wouldn't believe anything CNN says right before the NY Primary even if they lace it with something positive about Bernie.

(2,353 posts)Many here have speculated internal polling was showing a tighter race since she ran off to New York before Wisconsin even voted. I think her actions since Wisconsin have been consistent with a tight race.

(1,890 posts)the race is tightening but I question the timing of this information and the report that she's going to release negative ads because of it. Don't get me wrong I think she will release negative ads but I think this was bait because of the timing.

(3,040 posts)The format of the questions will be like this:
Sanders will only be asked questions that: 1) imply that his polices are wrong and he needs to explain why they aren't. 2) ask him to apologize for being rude, mean and sexist towards Hillary & 3) That he is a communist
Hillary's questions will be framed in a way to imply her policies are amazing and will be asked to explain why her policies are so great.

(751 posts)Someone who is up 15-20 points will not go negative and aggressive, and they try to play out the clock. Think of the first couple of debates where she was pretending Sanders wasn't even on the stage, and focusing on GOP & Trump.
If she is throwing hay-makers, attacking Bernie then they fear losing.

In fact, it is probably tighter than they are admitting.
Here is a piece of info. I have now covered major presidential rallies. See the ones for Clinton are not generating excitement. The cameras should not be able to show the floor.
Her events we are seeing the floor

(3,017 posts)A recent NY poll somebody posted at DU a couple of days ago only had Bernie ahead 56-40 among voters 45 and under. He has been winning that age bracket by a much wider margin in recent states and New York has had Occupy Wall Street, the anti-fracking movement and Zephyr Teachout's primary run against Cuomo in 2014 to organize people who are naturals for Bernie's movement. And we have seen the enthusiasm among young people in the huge rallies Bernie is having in NY, while Bill Clinton is working retirement homes.
Hillary's campaign told us how worried they are about this primary when they announced they were going negative in NY on the night of the Wisconsin primary defeat to "disqualify" Bernie.
I could see them dropping something really offensive tomorrow to try to steal the news cycle from Bernie while he's at the Vatican. I'm sure Hillary's campaign and her media allies are already working on counter coverage.

(11,197 posts)Polls are meaningless really. Wisconsin is a prime example. Polls showing Hillary ahead by double digits just before the primary, then she loses handily. Was polling just THAT wrong? Or, was the poll really designed to instill a sense of "Clinton inevitability" in voters minds as they headed to the polls?

(2,353 posts)Bernie's strategy was to mobilize a massive GOTV effort with 2 million phonebanking calls to be made over the weekend (plus canvassers in New York). No mention of running negative ads.
Clinton's strategy is to run a bunch of attacks ads over a NYDN interview which the New York Times debunked.

(9,313 posts)Can't find a link, but it was out about two days after the interview. Had quotes from headlines about Bernie's so-called "ignorance" (and if you have any doubts that the quotes are crap, see citations in http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=1412679)
I don't imagine they can make a new ad that's more "negative" than the one already out. And I don't imagine it would have much more effect than the first one. Old news and all.

(6,145 posts)I don't know what they're going to call it this time around but the continuing waves of negative attacks against Bernie do not suggest the assurance of a guaranteed winner. It suggests a very deep sense of insecurity.

(2,353 posts)When there is something to link to I will... Surely somebody else was watching CNN during the revelation and can corroborate with me..

(146,317 posts)You must know. See, your account leaves out all of the details. Was it a CNN reporter or a guest? I can't make much from your sketchy post. You did see this yourself, right?
GeorgiaPeanuts
(2,353 posts)But people in the Sanders group said they were discussing it again now, and that the plan is that attack ads will start from after the debate and run through the weekend.

(146,317 posts)OK, then. I guess I'll wait for a real report with names and stuff. Thanks for trying.

(2,353 posts)I don't know who the rest of the panel were. One looked like he might be the guy who reported first on the "disqualify, defeat, and worry about unity later".

My understanding is that Clinton is leading by plenty in the "internal" polls.

A very obvious GOTV effort.
