2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary will never unite the 'Democrats". Period.
She doesn't stand a chance.
This debate has been amazing. In some small degree.
Can't wait to hear from DU'ets in attendance.
Brooklynite comes to mind.......

(60,212 posts)I'd say it's more about the conflict between what dems have stood for for 80+ years (labor, universal voting rights, a government for the people and not private interests, etc.) versus the party "leadership" who has been bought by the selfsame people our values have traditionally opposed.

(9,314 posts)Sanders has finally gotten to the point where the percentage of Dems supporting him has actually gone up substantially than in the beginning of the race. But he has always had a majority of the Independents and some Republicans supporting him.

Xyzse
(8,217 posts)I'll still vote for her if she wins the primaries but donating, volunteering, putting out fires that her records and her lies cause by defending her is definitely out.
Sad to say it, but I will only help the local races and cannot donate to the DNC at that time.
Hell, her victory fund which is supposed to help state party elections, those that have signed up have yet to receive funds from it. Which makes it look like a slick operation designed to circumvent the donation cap rules.
Yes, I'm looking at those 4-6 figure price of admission dinners.
Tweeting about Sandy Hook though is such a despicable thing, that she crossed a line there...
Particularly as it looks like she approved the sales for Remington, for selling their arms around the world at that same year. https://medium.com/@JeanetteJing/secretary-clinton-approved-millions-in-global-sales-for-the-sandy-hook-gun-maker-9e8b0e78c58d#.qr3degnoy
I'm still trying to confirm this one... if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.
In any case, the way she started the debate tonight, from the 9/11 reminder, and strong reminder of showing off strength through military might... it felt like she was running as a Republican. Scared me a bit. Not to mention the constant reference to self, seemingly feeling entitled to the position by virtue of who she is rather than what she would do for the people...

(10,650 posts)Hillary earned every Democratic opponent she has on her own. The IWR vote, the bankruptcy bill, DOMA, pimping for "free" trade agreements, taking millions from the enemies of working people and pretending to care about their welfare. Welfare "reform". Crime bill, super-predators, prisons, prisons, prisons. Libya and Honduras. Ending Glass-Steagall. No we can't mantra. Kissinger, Kagan and Brock. Race baiting and using race to divide. Hawkish, neocon foreign policy.
She's a money grubber and amoral. But you can vote for her.

(10,565 posts)Hillary was one of the most liberal Senators in Congress. She is no Republican
Joe the Revelator
(14,915 posts)She may have voted with the bloc, but when it comes down to it, I find it hard to call her a democrat, at least in the way I expect the democratic party to behave:
*The Goldman Sachs stuff is obvious
* The Iraq war vote and her continued hawkishness
* Her inability to push for single payer healthcare
*Her desire to continue the drug war, espessially on marijuana.
* Trade. Trade. Trade
* Keystone
Just to name a few.
redstateblues
(10,565 posts)Bernie wouldn't push for single payer in NH-too expensive. On and on. Hillary is a solid progressive Democrat-she doesn't pass Sanders' Purity Party test but to say she is a Republican is an unfounded smear. Saying she is more akin to Cruz et all is bullshit and you know it. You're credibility is very strained at this point. I am a solid lifelong Democrat-so am I a Republican just because I think Hillary will be a better President? C'mon man. I think you are probably so upset that our Braves are so awful this year.

(10,650 posts)She's a Rockefeller republican. Times have changed, but ideologically that's where she is. She is somewhat liberal on social issues, but a corporate rightist on the economy and neocon rightist on foreign policy.
redstateblues
(10,565 posts)Corporate rightist? WTF is a rightist? You think she is akin to Cruz? Just because she doesn't pass your Bernie's Purity Party test she is not a Democrat? Is Bernie's support for gun manufacturers progressive? That sounds very right wing to me.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)republicans hate her because she is not a "pure" conservative in their eyes. They have gone to the extreme right. That's why there are no Rockefeller republicans remaining in that party. They "hated" them right out of the party.
The so-called "New Democrats" were started (with Hillary among them) to move the Democratic party from the New Dealism of FDR to the more corporate friendly but socially moderate Rockefeller republicanism. They have been very successful. Hillary's rise is proof of that.
Here's what a rightist is:
Rightist : supportive of the political views or policies of the right.
Of course she isn't like cruz on social issues. But on foreign policy she's a neocon. And on economics, she's a corporate loving Rockefeller republican.

(1 post)I don't know what people are thinking but age in this particular example running for President matters! For one he too old for this stressful job! He talks about free education but nothing is free! The taxpayers will pay for it! He had big ideas that are way unrealistic! He is too radical saying breaking up banks and I could go on and on! Because she is a woman the press plays too hard on her! Women if they believe in equal rights should vote for her alone on this! If we elect Bernie, Trump wins!
7wo7rees

(10,650 posts)Most DU'ers are Democrats and the Hillary supporters here always whine this site it very tilted to Bernie.
Sanders is bringing in new voters to the party because the young understand the need for change. They could become life-long Democrats unless the party old timers stick with the corporatist status quo.

(24,411 posts)and she lacks the ability to appeal to Independents and Republicans hate her.
The Democratic Party is in for a horrendously rude awakening. The party is in tatters (worse than the Republican party) and they are in complete denial.
Their hubris and their lack of empathy and wisdom prevents them from facing reality. They think we're all just going to hold hands and sing kumbaya--and we'll unite like other years.
This is not "other years." Not at all.
I've been a Democrat my entire life. I've voted for every Dem president from Carter to Obama--and I've volunteered for many Democratic presidential candidates.
I am very close to becoming an Independent, after I am through acting as a delegate for Bernie.
I never EVER considered that possibility until this primary.
Huge, humbling and sober loss for me if I do make that decision.

(5,811 posts)vote for a Republican for anything. To me, the GOP is a terrorist organization. We need to keep the WHITE HOUSE and we need to get the House and Senate back. We need to increase our govships and number of DEM controlled state houses.
Bernie gets my vote if he's the Dem nominee. I may hate him but there's no way in hell I would screw myself and humanity by voting for a Republican.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)I really do not know what I would do.

Very sad for me, as the Democratic party has been a huge part of my life and my identity since my first donation to them when i was ten years old.

(1,113 posts)This election is about getting money out of politics. If we do it, we will be able to have a democracy with a functioning public sector and a thriving middle class.
If we don't, we become Colombia.
