About that note from Pope Francis...it was addressed to the Conference as a whole...

The note explained that Pope Francis HAD intended to stop by the Conference, but that he was prevented from doing so at the last minute "because he had to get to bed to rest up for his trip to Greece tomorrow."

That's what was announced on MSNBC just now.

They also said that he was obliged to send the note, NOT because of the presence of the Bern, but because some notable and close Latin American friends of Pope Francis are there. That also explains why it was written in Spanish rather than Latin or Italian, the two official languages of the Vatican.

IOW, if the Bern hadn't barged his way in there, Pope Francis would've gone over to see his Spanish-speaking bros.

In diplomatic terminology, it is OBVIOUS that Pope Francis purposely stayed away to avoid the impropriety of the appearance of papal interference in US politics.

I fear the Bern will NOT be framing this for exhibition in his mythical future Presidential library.

Sorry Bernie. No cigar.

What a disgusting post. You should be ashamed of the anti-semitic statement.

And SBS was invited. You're not entitled to peddle your own fiction as fact.

I alerted you because of your bigotry.

before he left and chose to go.. I suspect lack of something that could be construed as a papal endorsement is a great disappoint to the radical BSers here, and maybe a few like them elsewhere, but no one else. None was expected. Big deal.

But it is for them. They constantly set themselves up for disappointment by just requiring too much from their leader. Bernie can never be good enough for them. Hillary can never be bad enough. And that seems to be about 90% of what this election is about for too many.. Their good versus Democrat evil.

I'm actually glad Bernie has a large following of normal Democrats who will still respect him and his fight for his goals even if he does not win.

You can't support a single statement you "supposed".
I'm not surprised the depths to which some have sunk.

I am delighted that Bernie was invited to speak at this conference at the Vatican,
and delighted with his outstanding performance last night. He is recognized by The World as a great man who has worked tirelessly for over 40 years for social and economic justice. THAT can not be denied.

What YOU posted was a sour grape opinion without substance or support.
Cheers!

21. A note for the conference and a private meeting for Bernie with Pope Francis
Sat Apr 16, 2016, 07:02 AM
Apr 2016

ROME — U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders says he met privately with Pope Francis during his overnight trip here, his spokesman said.

The meeting took place at the papal residence early Saturday, according Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs.

A Vatican source said the meeting was not a chance encounter and had been planned.

The Sanders campaign had been vague about the senator's itinerary here following his address Friday to a Vatican conference. Francis left Rome later Saturday for Greece, where he is visiting migrants stuck on the island of Lesbos. The reticence about a Sanders meeting may be an attempt to avoid the perception that Francis is endorsing Sanders or otherwise involving himself in American politics.

Sanders was invited to address a Vatican seminar on income inequality and economic justice, and took an unusual break from the Democratic primary campaign trail to attend. He had said in a Washington Post interview last week that he admired Francis and hoped to meet him, but that nothing was set.

Sanders quotes Francis frequently in his address to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, and told reporters afterward that the pope has had enormous influence in airing issues of wealth disparity and climate change.
