Nothing gets out tough stains like a charitable foundation and a shell company in Delaware!

There is nothing illegal or unseemly about it in general, as many foundations do good, but the REASON they do it this way is to give them an out. It works like this.

You create a charitable foundation and donate 3 million to it. That money can sit in the foundation for any number of years. IF for some reason your finances don't go the way you want, you can always take a job as director of the foundation and pay yourself a salary. Now, of course you will now have to pay tax on that 3 million as you take it as salary, but it was deferred.

You can ALSO (if you are nefarious) save millions in taxes this way. Say you have some very good years.. you can donate high amounts to your charitable foundation. (Sheltering that money from high tax brackets in that year).

Then in years where you don't have other revenue, you can draw a lower salary from the foundation and thus get taxed at a much lower rate... the only issue would be that you would now be paying payroll taxes on that amount, BUT if you are REALLY smart, you can have a sub S-corporation be billed for your services and then pay yourself a lower salary from that S-corp and take the rest as dividends (which are exempt from payroll taxes).

Not saying that is what the Clinton's are doing here, but it is a strategy many of the 1%ers use.

If it's not explicitly illegal, and it makes them money, they are doing it.

Of that I'm confident. And I remember seeing some of their form 440s or some such that describe salaries of board members of one of the several family foundations. Six figures. What a nice way to treat friends!

And a great way to trade favors- you have your foundation do some work or shift money to one of your business buddies, and he or she returns the favor later.

It's just legalized corruption, and they make it so convoluted for some reason- maybe to show how clever they are at not being normal people.

I just looked at that tax return, and her $3 million goes to the Clinton Family Foundation. That's not the same as the Clinton Foundation. I don't know anything about the Clinton Family Foundation. Maybe someone can look it up.

The first couple of American liberalism reported income of $139 million in their hardship years from 2007-2014. That’s a tad more than most of the “everyday Americans” whom Mrs. Clinton claims to speak for, which may explain why an accompanying press release stressed that she and Bill had given $14,959,450 to charity.

That’s wonderful, save for the small detail that her charity of choice was her own family. The couple donated all but $200,000 of their gifts since 2007 to the Clinton Family Foundation, which isn’t exactly the Little Sisters of the Poor.

While the foundation does contribute to charitable causes, it also doubles as a vehicle to promote the first family’s political ambitions and public profile. It spends an outsized portion of its money, for instance, picking up the travel and other expenses for the whole family.

The foundation has also functioned between campaigns and stints in public office as a jobs program and financier for various Clinton operatives. Sidney Blumenthal, who was banned by the White House from a job at the State Department, was paid by the foundation while he was dispensing bad advice on Libya to Mrs. Clinton. Foreign governments, unions, wealthy Democrats and corporations donated to the foundation knowing its political importance to the woman who could be the next U.S. President.

Looks to me that the WSJ is saying the Clinton Family Foundation is the same as the Clinton Foundation.

Now, really, are they going to close any of these loop holes? They have received so much from them. It is the same reason she will do NOTHING to overturn citizen united. How would she run a campaign without its support?
