(12,689 posts)Sanders gave legitimacy to a Republican talking point about the process overall.

(687 posts)So no one should ever disagree with Obama?
I guess we should all follow blindly so that the Republicans can never have any ammunition.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)Quite simply the answer should have been that Republicans should hold hearings and a vote on the nominee.

(3,660 posts)The question was if they hadn't and he was the nominee.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)Sanders will end up in some Republican ads supporting their argument, which is absolutely fine with me since he's not my candidate. I was just pointing up what the end result of his comments will be.

(3,660 posts)Have to reply with some trite response?
You think if Bernie is the nominee that Hillary won't appear in Republican ads?
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)Pope Sanders made a comment that gave Republican ammunition. Had Hillary Clinton answered the question the same way as Sanders, I'd say you'd be reacting very differently right now.

(687 posts)He has the right and duty to oppose any nomination he doesn't think it the right one.
Obama isn't king and if he nominated someone that was REALLY a Democrat then there would be no problem.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)The bottom line is that Obama should not withdraw his nominee because Republicans say so or because Bernie Sanders demands it. But, whatever you want to believe, I'm not going to argue with you.

(3,660 posts)I disagree with their obstruction, but in this case it has the benefit of possibly keeping Garland off the bench. Honestly Garland is a horrible choice by any liberal or progressive standard.

(15,189 posts)The question was if the guy wasn't nominated, not that they shouldn't nominate him till a new president. I'm sure Bernie would agree that Obama should be the one to fill that seat. But if he doesn't was the question.

(687 posts)You don't seem to be able to back up you posts and usually revert to some side issue.
Sorry, you're original post has no merit and your side post has much less.

You don't deserve mollycoddling.

That's the republican's game.
Perogie
(687 posts)I just say he is not a Democrat and a lousy pick for Scotus.

(85,996 posts)...this isn't the first time Sanders has undermined our Democratic president for the benefit of his bid for that office.
Perogie
(687 posts)It is his duty to do so if he doesn't think the nomination is the best one.
This is the United States of America where not only we as citizens, but our elected officials have the right and duty to disagree with the President.
I wasn't aware this country was run by a King and we couldn't object to the President's nomination.
You may not like it, but boo hoo too bad for you.
Thank God there are people who still speak truth to power in this country.

(13,424 posts)Using your logic, since Justice Ginsburg like Justice Scalia, he must have met your approval. I don't think you know much if anything about Garland.
There really is no difference between the fringe left and the right wing nowadays.

(13,424 posts)I have faith in what President Obama is doing. Obviously you would prefer it if Romney had won in 2012.

(1,784 posts)cowardly.. Garland is a favorite of the right... he was suggested by them before this political grandstand they concocted after scalia died. He is not a Progressive jurist by any means ... I have lived through a conservative corporate court my whole life... and I think it is seriously important for us to make a stand and change the leaning of the court

(385 posts)What would they do without Bernie's comment? They would be totally unable to filibuster Garland.
They probably would have confirmed him by now if Bernie had not threatened them with a genuinely liberal nomination if he wins the GE.
REALLY?

They don't want an authentic liberal on the court.

(53,778 posts)All Sanders had to say is Garland deserves a hearing. The repugs have already signaled that Garland is not conservative enough for them.
