So are Clinton supporters bothered by Bills "shoot people on Wall St." joke?

Last edited Sat Apr 16, 2016, 12:26 AM - Edit history (1)

Seems mighty hypocritical for the "fainting couch" crowd to give a pass to his "joke" saying those kids who support Sanders want to shoot every third person on Wall St.

It is making light of violence and shooting as a joke....Last night Hillary said gun violence is no laughing matter.

And since the use of the phrase "corporate whores" was so upsetting, one would think that a statement like this from a former President and possible First Husband would also seem a little jarring.

But I guess if you're a Clinton you can say and do anything and get a pass.

And the manufactured outrage machine doesn't function if a Clinton is involved.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/15/politics/bill-clinton-bernie-sanders-shoot-wall-street/

Bill Clinton joked Friday that Bernie Sanders' supporters would "shoot every third person on Wall Street" if given the chance, a riff on his broader defense of Hillary Clinton's economic record.

"One of the few things I really haven't enjoyed about this primary: I think it's fine that all these young students have been so enthusiastic for her opponent and (he) sounds so good: 'Just shoot every third person on Wall Street and everything will be fine,'" Clinton said at an event in Fort Washington, New York. He pointed to fewer people working on Wall Street since the Dodd-Frank Act was passed as proof that financial reforms that his wife supports are effective.

if some Sanders supporters are acting inappropriately, I certainly don't condone that. But depends on what "inappropriate" is according to my own compass, not which candidate is involved.

But considering the extent of poutrage a slip of the tongue of a supporter at a rally who may have never even met Sanders compared to the husband of a candidate's violent "joke" in horrible taste -- the day after his wife tried to score points by snapping at Sanders "gun violence is no laughing matter."

Compared to the high dudgeon over an actresses sloppy phrase for political analysis on a talk show....

If Jane Sanders had made mildly inappropriate joke about Clinton supporters.................Hoo Boy there would be panties in a wad from the Clinton camp and media.

I thinik OWS did a brave and good thing, and I think their complaints about the system are correct.

But in terms of political activity they're not the "ideological core" -- they express one response to widespread beliefs that out system is corrupt.

But that deflects from the point in the OP.

I still find an amazing disconnect between the excessively amplified outrage over "seven degrees of separation" supporters of Sanders and the crickets over a violent, demeaning and right-wing joke by the husband of a presidential candidate.

But when we walked in the meeting they were setting up an "introduction circle" in which we were supposed to spill our soul to a bunch of strangers...My girlfriend and I looked at each otehr and headed out the door.

But I have no problem with them or anyone else getting involved. If they do inappropriate things, they deserve criticism for that.

But that is a deflection from the point. Bill Clinton made a joke that was in horrible taste, and Clinton supporters -- who jump with self-righteous indignation on any perceived misstep by a Sanders surrogate -- are just fine with it.
