Hillary Clinton Snags $15M+ From George Clooney-Hosted SF & LA Fundraisers

http://deadline.com/2016/04/george-clooney-hillary-clinton-fundraisers-jeffrey-katzenberg-steven-spielberg-bernie-sanders-1201738559/

Friday, two sold-out fundraisers hosted by George Clooney and Amal Clooney for the former Secretary of State this weekend will pull in at least $15 million altogether, I’ve learned.

...

The actual guest list for the April 16 fundraiser — co-hosted by Jeffrey Katzenberg and wife Marilyn, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, and Haim Saban and wife Cheryl — is being treated like a state secret by the already usually very tight-lipped Clinton campaign and organizers.

$15M won't beat Trump. He can buy and sell Hillary & her Hollywood pals all day long.

The thing you Hillary folks can't seem to grasp is that the only candidate who can win the hearts and minds of a majority of Americans - and lessen the impact of the billions of corporate cash - is Bernie. Show me a rally of Hillary's with an iota of the enthusiasm of Bernie's rallies. For chrissakes Trump's (quasi-Nazi) rallies are 1000x more energized than Hillary milquetoast snooze fests.

Money can't fix the fact that she's just GOP-lite and totally in the pocket of Goldman Sachs and other .001%ers. And uh, generally unlike-able.

won't provide the $$$ needed to beat both Trump and the rest of the downticket Rethug candidates. Hearts and minds are wonderful things but cold hard cash - particularly after Citizens United- dictates that he who spends the most is probably going to be in much better shape to win the race. I also wouldn't count on Trump's bombast. He's famous (infamous) for being a tightwad who only spends other people's money. In addition, I seriously doubt that Trump will be the Retbug's candidate, Their leaders are openly calling for blocking him at the convention and the sleazy Cruz already has cut his throat with many of the delegates, including those Trump had taken for granted were his. For ex., the Rethug primary in Indiana still has to vote, in 2 or 3 weeks or so (don't remember the exact date) but, regardless of the vote, Indiana has 57 delegates. Of those, 56 are already pledged to Cruz. Cruz has outmaneuvered him with the delegates. Sorry, Donald.

More donors. More return donors. More money donated every month, the last 3 months straight.
In fact, he has broke every record set by PBO in 2008 primary season fundraising.
He had $15 million more in March and is likely to best her again in April.
He did it without having to hold fundraising parties with millionaires and billionaires in California and China.

is the nominee, this is going to continue through the GE? Not to mention that none of the money has has raised and is raising is going to help any downticket Democrat. His answer when asked if he was going to do that: "We'll see". That was a long time ago, and so far we've seen. Nothing. Hillary on the other hand has raised funds not only for herself but also for the Democratic Party and other candidates. The only problem with having millionaires donate is that the don't do it for Bernie.

He's fighting so no one will need to go cup in hand to the rich elites and corporations in order to be able to compete in elections; To make elections about ideas and policies rather than who has the richest 'friends with favors to ask".

Sanders just proved that the 'traditional' campaign financing method was all bullshit ... there's only two reasons why a politician would spend 40% of every day on the phone with the rich elites 'dialing for dollars' ... 1) They are doing it because they THINK that's the only way it can be done, or; 2) Their own personal networks and bank accounts will be well compensated after their political career.

The more she does this type of fundraising, the more the average person is going to see through her like a pane of glass. Bernie goes and talks with the Vatican about income inequality and on the very same day HRC is raking in buckets of cash from the Hollywood elite. How much more of a contrast could there be? A blindfolded bat could see who really is concerned about the poor, the middle class, people of color, LGBT people, etc., and it sure as hell isn't the candidate sipping champagne and scarfing down lobster with the top 1% of Hollywood's 1%.

Pity the Clooneys aren't raising this money to help the homeless in San Francisco. I think it's worse than New York wast in the 80s.

I spoke to someone who was attending.

Very simply he said to me, "Bernie is a much better candidate and I wish could support him, but Clinton is going to win and you can't be on the wrong side of them".

He went on to explain in vivid detail how being "against" them puts you on the outs. He called it the "Politics of devastation". (not personal destruction) and explained that they are well known for shutting their "enemies" out completely.

So basically, the reason, is these hollywood heavy hitters want to keep their political influence high and they know if they go against Hillary and she gets the nomination, whether she wins or loses, they will be on the "outs" with the establishment.

If those numbers seem high under what is allowed under primary rules, they are – but they also are perfectly within what’s permitted. Like the Sting event and the Radio City Music Hall event of March 2, this weekend’s two Hillary Victory Fund affairs take only the allowed $2,700 per individual or $5,000 a couple directly for the Hillary for America ledger. The rest of the dough is divided up between the Democratic National Committee and state parties from Arkansas to Wyoming for the general election.

Shame on the Clooneys and Hillary for raising funds for down ticket candidates. Perish the thought that the front runner is helping the party and fellow Democrats.

I prefer that to taking big money from corporate lobbyists (though we don't know how many of those might have been writing checks here also).

My problem is with the wildly outsized role that a tiny percentage of very well heeled individuals usually have in determining who is and who is not a viable candidate for public office.

Do Democrats still believe in campaign finance reform?
