(4,753 posts)appointments with their therapists since THEY are the ones who tried to politicize this trip (evidence: 1 zillion Hillarian posts right here on DU besmirching Bernie's trip).

(5,792 posts)But what Bernie said I'm sure transpired. A quick but gracious encounter where Bernie told the Pope how he was impressed with the Pope's concerns for income inequality and climate change. Enough of this crap. You people have nothing horrible on Bernie so you pick at the bird seed. Leave the bird seed for the bird on the lectern.

(7,413 posts)I, personally, think that the Pope is very simpatico with Bernie but, of course, can't get involved showing a candidate preference.

(14,157 posts)When I came down, he introduced himself, I greeted him with a handshake, and nothing more, the pope added. Its common courtesy, this is called common courtesy."

(28,876 posts)And that's truly a shame.
The focus here should be advocacy against inequality.
But, then again, perhaps distracting from that message IS the ultimate goal here.

Not quite "meeting with the Pope," as the campaign tried to characterized it.
Yeah, you called it.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)Care to contemplate that question?
Bobbie Jo
(14,341 posts)it was his quote.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)"[Sanders] had the kindness to greet me."
Did you miss that part?
Bobbie Jo
(14,341 posts)Pretty much as the OP describes.
Again, not quite "meeting with the Pope" as the campaign tried to characterize it.
What was the Pope supposed to do, snub him? Sneak out the back door? It wasn't "arranged" it was plotted.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)And "ambushes" of the Pope are frequently allowed.
Bobbie Jo
(14,341 posts)timing is everything.
The OP called it.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)Is that your argument?
Bobbie Jo
(14,341 posts)The Pope was gratious enough to accomodate, of course.
Besides, he had to save face from this whopper:
"You're meeting with the Pope?"
"Yup." On his way out the door...
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)Francis head out there for a smoke, and then, wham!, Sanders?
You really think either of their security would allow that?
Bobbie Jo
(14,341 posts)Post 22 sums it up.

(28,340 posts)I guess he figured he could sleep on the plane. I'm sure he had some good coffee to keep him awake till 4am, waiting. I can hear him shouting in that accent, voice bouncing off the walls "He's gotta come out sometime!"

(1,511 posts)The Vatican has no record of the psychiatrist remark, but Reuters has a version that says if someone thinks it was about politics they are crazy. They did meet along with Jane for 5 minutes, and it even talks about how Bernie has said he does not agree with the gay rights and abortions issues. So I am warming up some more crow pie for you guys is you like.
