Pope Francis is feeling more than a bit Berned by partisan politics, and he’s taking definitive steps to distance himself from the insinuations being made by Bernie Sanders and those who support him in the American presidential election. After Sanders finagled his way into a ten minute speaking slot at a meeting of professors at the Vatican, he’s now claiming that he had a meeting with the Pope before he left the Vatican. He also seems to be implying that the Pope is siding with his campaign. That prompted Francis himself to address reporters today and state that if anyone believes he’s weighing in on the election, they should “look for a psychiatrist.”

In what might be the harshest public rebuke that the generally polite Pope Francis has issued toward any particular foreign politician in his entire tenure, he’s making clear that Senator Bernie Sanders ambushed him for a handshake and that nothing more took place between them. ...........

1. The reason the pope isn't smeared like EVERY other opponent of neo-liberalism, is because the Vatican is one of the ONLY power centers the establishment actually fears. After so many years, they know it's not on their side, and they have to bite their tongues and show respect.


2. 5 seconds will tell you what we all know, pope Francis and the current Vatican have closer alignment with Sanders. However the Vatican is still a large institution, and an outright endorsement is not something that can be done officially, as it would carry serious ramifications. Remember all that great coverage? They hate him, keep this in mind, his very existence is something that they are not happy about but are forced to accept... A full endorsement could split the church in two, but it's clear it's Sanders who is in the hearts and minds.

3. The Hillary campaign, and frankly all of the establishment media is very worried about this. Nobody really knows how this will play out, but it's scary nonetheless for those who are served by the present order. They wan't to make this as political as possible, so they can use it against the pope behind closed doors, so they can convince the interests to go to war with the Vatican.
