2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI heard on NPR that Sanders met with Pope Francis.
I was very disappointed in the fact that they just took a Sanders press release at face value. I would expect better. This provides a clearer picture. Both of what happened and to what the Sanders campaign will stoop to.

(3,226 posts)What is your problem? Would you rather have NPR list the people who payed a shitload of money to meet Hillary last night?

(13,783 posts)And I'm sorry that the Sanders campaign was willing to distort a non-event into "a meeting." That's a cynical ploy for Catholic votes in New York.

(25,816 posts)Check your dictionary. A "non-event"? I'm sure it was a memorable event for both men.

(25,816 posts)So Bernie just stalked him, hiding behind things, probably with evil intent.
You guys are sooo desperate to make this simple event look sinister. I truly
feel sorry for you. You can tell me that HRC has more votes (so far), but I still. truly
feel sorry for you.

(685 posts)Because, first I love when rich people spend their money here in America. I love when they spend lots of money in America instead of parking it somewhere off shore. It adds to the economic engine. Like Dolly Levi says, "money is like manure, you have to spread it around to make things grow." (Or something like that...)
I'm happy for the waitstaff who worked last night. I hope they earned good tips. I've done that job and its grueling but it can pay well. I'm happy for the caterer who landing a good gig last night. I hope they charged a small fortune for the food and beverages they provided.
And most of all I'm happy for the down ticket democrats who'll use chunks of that cash to fuel their own campaigns.
I support any activity that helps to elect democrats and defeat republicans.
And given the variable scenarios to choose from, I'd much rather hear about rich people paying to meet Hillary than rich people paying to hear Trump or Cruz or Kasich.

(3,226 posts)that one of our Demorcratic candidates meet the Pope no mater how briefly.
All week we have hear such BS ... Bernie invited himself, He will not even go, he will not even give a speech at the conference, the Pope is not interested in this conference he will be out of town ... And of course the Pope is not ever going to ever even shake Bernie's hand .....

(685 posts)In a hallway. I actually like this Pope, as Popes go.
The problem I have with it, is it was stated at first, by Bernie that he was invited by the Pope to the Vatican. And that turned out to not be the case. And then it was stated that he was meeting with the Pope. And that turned out to not be the case. And then it was stated that he met with the Pope in a private setting in a room off of the breakfast area. And per the press release from the Vatican, that turned out to not be the case.
I'm Catholic. Many, maybe most Catholics adore this Pope. We don't kin to him being used like that.
But I think it's great that Bernie shook the Pope's hand and that our Pope was gracious enough in the moment, despite how his image was being used politically by Sanders and his surrogates. Even if just by vague implication.

(47,479 posts)Democrats.
Of course Sanders will not do this. He is not a Democrat, could not care less. Same with many of his supporters. They will stay home. Cruz or Trump in the White House? Meh...
A 7-2 right wing Supreme Court? I am ignorant, don't know anything about the Supreme Court.

Or gasp? Oh, no...The thread's been trashed...for that one reader...what to do?
Announcing the trashing of a thread always seemed like a bit of drama, IMO.

(47,479 posts)what a coup this will be. A Jewish presidential candidate who was "saved" and "saw the light."
I don't suppose it meant anything for Sanders that today is the Jewish Sabbath?
