2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA VIDEO of the Pope explaining what happened.
And to those hoards of Sanders supporters who ask why I bothered to post this... Because it's an illustration of a smear-prone/inept campaign that speaks before it thinks. That distorts to its own ends. There's the "she said Sanders was unqualified" which he had to back off of. Then "Will you meet with the Pope? Yep." Which he had to walk back after the first utterance. I'm willing to blame the Sanders staff for this behavior, because we see him when he's called to account. But we have to blame Sanders for depending on such people for his staff.

(11,996 posts)Very cool! Thanks!
CNN is repeating it like every 10mins or so, how Sanders just hours after jetting in from meeting the Pope at the Vatican.
Well - that worked out well!

(1,729 posts)What did us Hillary supports know? I don't think even the staunchest among us here expected him to camp out in the lobby. Clearly we have to reassess how low this man is willing to sink to win.

(11,996 posts)Being Hillary supporters explains much, but I'm still surprised how easy it was/is for so many of you to look so foolish.

(13,783 posts)... NPR, CNN and ABC reported about Bernie returning home "after meeting with the Pope." That spin implies intentional conversation, much more weight than the picture of him waiting at 6 a.m. for a chance for a hand shake. Anyone with an open mind would see these news stories as the result of a cynical spin by the Sanders campaign to imply a connection between Sanders and the Pope that just isn't there, and that Francis is explaining is not there.
The spin is to appeal to Catholic voters, especially in New York. It is cynical and untrue.

(3,457 posts)And will conclude that the Pope has endorsed Bernie. Yay!

(1,732 posts)most people with common sense know the Pope is trying to stay below the radar and doesn't want to come across as political, but they also know he and Bernie share many of the same beliefs and values. It's no accident he was invited and offered the opportunity to meet with the Pope, however brief the encounter may or may not have been.

(14,881 posts)Crazy employee of the Vatican (not member of Vatican, but contract employee w/5 year stint) claims Sanders initiated and "pushed" to get into the conference.
Crazy employee's boss (close aide to Pope and member of Vatican) corrects that he invited Sanders.
Sanders is asked if he'll meet the Pope and answers "he hopes too meet the Pope."
Some people on DU claim he's not going, he's not speaking at the conference, he won't meet the Pope.
Sanders goes to and speaks at the conference. Video and transcripts are released.*
Sanders briefly meets the Pope. Announcement made this morning.
Some people on DU claim he is lying and didn't meet the Pope.
Vatican confirms Sanders met the Pope. Video of Pope describing the nonpolitical nature of the meeting emerges.
Some people on DU claim this proves Sanders is a liar.
Ok. Whatever.
* On the subject of transcripts, would *love* to see just one of Hillary's Goldman speech transcripts. What's Hillary hiding, hmmm?

(42,862 posts)Why would Bernie and his fans continue to portray their early morning pre departure encounter and handshake in the foyer as being more than it really is?

(25,525 posts)Maybe this is the "poutrage" they're always accusing everyone else of having. They'll feel better after they post a few dozen hysterical fake Clinton smears. I see they're dragging out Monica Lewinsky and stuff about Hillary being a lawyer, who knows.
