Hillary Clinton detoured on Saturday from a weekend of big-money fundraising in California to pitch her plans to raise the federal minimum wage and refresh her criticism of rival Bernie Sanders in advance of Tuesdays New York primary.
The former first lady told a cheering crowd at a Los Angeles rally on Saturday afternoon that if elected she would push Congress to lift the $7.25-an-hour federal base wage.
Clintons remarks echoed her statements at Thursdays Democratic debate in Brooklyn. The former senator, who has previously endorsed a $12-per-hour federal minimum wage, said she would also sign legislation raising that level to $15.
People end up in poverty. We need a living wage, she told her audience at Southwest Los Angeles College. She credited California for recently enacting the nations highest statewide minimum wage $15 an hour by 2022.
The focus of Clintons swing through California was a pair of big-ticket fundraisers with actor George Clooney, with some donors agreeing to raise or donate six-figure sums.

(2,353 posts)Is the first time she has referred to a living wage?
...she mentioned it in 2014: There are a growing number of businesses in our country showing what it means to be responsible corporate citizens. Theyre paying workers a living wage instead of a poverty wage. They are investing in communities instead of hollowing them out. They are empowering workers instead of preventing them from organizing and joining unions to represent them. But we still dont have enough who are doing all of that.
