2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI need a good laugh. What was Hillary's greatest achievement in her many years of public service?
Of course I'm being charitable when I say public service.

(3,977 posts)You know , bipartisanship. Like Bernie voting with Republicans as well. On guns , ,Militia men , nuclear waste to Texas. It's the sausage-making .

(1,464 posts)It takes zero effort but makes you feel good.
Sen/Reps are judged by the # of sponsored bills they get passed, no co-sponsored. Hillary got 3 ceremonial bills she sponsored passed and that's it. She was do-nothing Senator. Obama got more done in the Senate in 4 years than she got done in her 8. And Bernie certainly got way more done than Hillary did. Just his VA bill with McCain was more than Hillary did.

(29,251 posts)I was deeply involved volunteering in the campaign here. I personally spoke with hundreds and hundreds of voters. At that point in the campaign, due to the media barely covering him, the majority - yes majority - of people I talked with really didn't know him at all. All they'd heard, for the most part, was the memes being promulgated by Hillary's campaign. This was corroborated by many fellow staging locations directors, canvass captains and canvassers.
So, for whatever you think it's worth, if you are genuinely interested in the Virginia vote, most people had just a passing familiarity with his name and the "issues" against him.

redstateblues
(10,565 posts)Everybody I knew at the time voted for McGovern. How is it possible Nixon won? With all the money Bernie has it has to be considered an unforced error that he didn't spend some of his ample resources to get Virginians familiar with him.

(1,603 posts)She's constantly reminding us of her great resume. Seems weird to have a great resume with no noteworthy accomplishments.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Clearly, you are not a supporter of hers and the purpose of the thread was not to celebrate her accomplishments, but rather it was to suggest that she hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy, as you say here.

(10,565 posts)She is a flawed candidate but Bernie has no plan to win back Congress-He hasn't lifted a finger to help down ballot Dems. He has no plan to win back state houses. Bernie is an anger and envy merchant who would be an epic failure as President because of his inability to compromise. I would have supported Warren if she had chosen to run. She is inspirational. If Bernie won the nomination I would vote for him-I wouldn't feel good about it tho- The Rs would destroy Bernie in the GE. BSS are totally blind to Bernie's baggage. We have no perfect candidates as opposed to what we had when Obama ran. Hillary, not being the ideal candidate, would be a good President. The fact that Bernie doesn't respect our Prez bothers me. I admire Obama greatly.

(1,192 posts)which kind of reminds me of that show Scandal where the guy has a crappy dad, so his staffer feels bad for him and gives him presidency by subverting democracy. It's funny when white people suffer in their personal life, everyone else has to feel bad for them and give them something for it. I mean, talk about white privilege. If Barack Obama cheated on Michelle Obama, would people feel bad for her and think she deserves the presidency (partly) because she's put up with a lot of crap? I don't think so.
Clinton is, clearly, a corporate stooge.

(1,788 posts)maybe, just maybe the whole thing sickened her and she didn't handle it as well as you would. I also laugh when I shouldn't, I do it when I'm nervous and/or uncomfortable. Shit happens. And smear the poor little girl, this wasn't the 1990's, it was the 70's...they did that crap. Just a fact. You can't use today to judge yesterday....it doesn't work that way.

"It may be hard for your viewers to remember how difficult it was for people to talk about HIV/AIDS back in the 1980s and because of both president and Mrs. Reagan in particular Mrs. Reagan we started a national conversation, when before nobody would talk about it, nobody wanted to do anything about it, and that too is something I really appreciate with her very effective low-key advocacy. It penetrated the public conscience and people began to say, hey, we have to do something about this too."
