2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo the Saudis own 9 percent of D.C. real estate, I've been told.
In this current game of blink-eye, they have threatened to dump their U.S. assets if Congress does not refuse to release the 28 pages that were redacted from the 9/11 report.
Bernie has thundered that the U.S. will not allow the Saudis to blackmail us.
Silence from Hillary so far.
Obama is off to Saudi Arabia this upcoming week.

Blue Meany
(1,947 posts)This would raise the cost of borrowing for the federal government, might hurt Wall Street bond speculators, and would probably depress the value of the dollar. OTOH, a slumping dollar would increase employment and wages.

(8,969 posts)I'm pretty sure the Saudis don't want to do anything that would lower the value of the dollar

(56,582 posts)The problem is that's as nebulous a term as back when we freaked out that "the Chinese" owned 8% of Manhattan.
The Kingdom itself owns the embassy (which is an entire block of New Hampshire Ave next to the Kennedy Center) and I think two cultural centers somewhere uptown.
