How DARE they throw money to protest! It's sexist!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chris-weigant/abbie-hoffman-occupy-wall-street_b_993325.html

Wall Street Protest, Circa 1967
Forty-four years ago, Abbie Hoffman and a few friends made a statement on Wall Street. His merry band of pranksters took a tour of the New York Stock Exchange on August 24, 1967. The tour ended at a gallery overlooking the actual trading floor. Hoffman and his friends rushed to the railing, and began throwing money onto the heads of the traders below. The stock ticker (at the time, the sacred heartbeat of the American financial system) was halted for six minutes, while the crowd grubbed for the money on the floor. Hoffman’s group was then escorted out, where they spoke to a crowd of reporters.

Hoffman wasn’t protesting any one thing in particular. His group didn’t have a list of demands. It’s not even correct to call his action a “protest” or “media event” — it was more properly “street theater” or “guerrilla theater.”

Protest night at the museum: The Guggenheim is disrupted by demonstrators throwing fake money in the rotunda
As before, the protest was directed at unfair labor practices associated with institution’s plans to build a Frank Gehry–designed branch on Saadiyat Island near Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Once again, the rotunda was showered with stuff tossed from the ramps—this time in the form of fake dollars bills marked with phrases such as What Does an Ethical Global Museum Look Like? and Shit Is Fucked Up & Bullshit.

While Dorchester security staff kept a number of protesters off the main forecourt, others managed to blockade a side entrance to the ballroom. Two had superglued their hands to the doors, much to the dismay of the first cop to arrive, while others sat in revolving doors, throwing Monopoly money at each other and laughing.

I guess they do think people are stupid then, or who are they saying it for?

As a woman I wish they would stop playing fast and loose with the gender card. They are making a mockery of equality for women and making it look like women are so weak they can't take normal criticism a politician is bound to have to endure.

for whom gender is the primary identity and the only lens through which life can be viewed. I, too, am a woman and also a feminist, but if I thought gender were all there is to life, I might die of boredom.

But then there are others who find it convenient as a way to promote their candidate and also to explain people's dislike of her. So it's like: vote for her because she's a woman but if if you don't like her, it's because she's a woman. Imagine being reduced to nothing but your gender. That's pretty insulting!

The fund comprises Clinton’s presidential campaign committee, as well as the Democratic National Committee and 32 state party committees. As a result, it can accept checks as large as $358,000 per person — a total determined by the maximum donation to each of its component committees ($5,400 to the Clinton campaign, $33,400 to the DNC and $10,000 to each of the state parties).

The idea is that the committee will help the state parties raise money for their general election efforts, an area where Clinton’s allies argue that her insurgent rival for the Democratic presidential nomination Bernie Sanders has done little. Sanders has a joint fundraising committee, as well, but it has been relatively inactive.

Yet, during the first three months of the year, the $2 million transferred by the Hillary Victory Fund to various state party committees paled in comparison to the $9.5 million it transferred to Clinton’s campaign committee or the $3.5 million it transferred to the DNC.

And the Hillary Victory Fund also spent $6.7 million on online ads that mostly looked like Clinton campaign ads, as well as $5.5 million on direct marketing. Both expenses seem intended at least in part to help Clinton build a small donor base, an area in which Sanders has far outpaced her.

FEC reports filed Friday showed that Clinton’s campaign and joint fundraising committee received a total of $1.8 million in checks bundled by lobbyists, including Tony Podesta (the brother of her campaign chairman John Podesta), former Sen. Mary Landrieu and energy lobbyist Ankit Nitin Desai.

in high end political fundraising. He said they are right to protest. So you are calling Clooney stupid just after he used his own status to assist Democrats and your candidate in specific. That's not wise.

And in doing so, she is doing a disservice to all women. Women should be held to the same standard as men. A woman hiding her flaws behind her gender is just as bad as a man entrenched in an "old boys' network".
