2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI acknowledge that Bernie has an excellent chance to win the NY primary.
He's from Brooklyn, after all, and still has the accent. His signature issue is to break apart the big banks and New Yorkers have seen close-up just how devastating Wall Street has been to the economy of New York City and the country. He's thrown some big rallies, and while De Blasio has endorsed Hillary, the mayor's "Macaca moment" last week when he was exposed as a racist means that his endorsement is worth very little. Bernie's pilgrimage to the Vatican will help win him the Catholic vote. And as we know, primary polls tend to be wrong and don't mean much. And nobody is going to pay much attention to the endorsements of the NY corporatist newspapers.
So Bernie, I believe, has an excellent chance to win in NY. Of course, if the underdog Hillary overcomes all this and beats him anyway, it will be an utterly devastating blow to his campaign which he will be unlikely to recover from.

(8,758 posts)... He keeps telling Democrats how Bernie's ideas will help Democrats.
I think the passion is there in the party, I think the will is there in the party, but he's still seen as an outsider. He's got the indepentent and youth vote behind him, now he needs old party types. Appealing to the needs of Democrats, all Democrats, is the next step.

in the latest poll, I personally feel like he's already won.

If he cannot achieve this easy take, he is finished.

That said, I think the outcome is less than certain.
It's somewhat easier to identify poll participants as previous voting in a closed primary is a pretty good predictor of future voting in a closed primary. But there have been a lot of new registrations. If I understand this notice correctly ...
April 19, 2016 Presidential Primary Deadlines
MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Application must be postmarked no later than March 25th and received by a board of elections no later than March 30th to be eligible to vote in the Presidential Primary.
IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Presidential Primary, your application must be received no later than March 25th.
... then the end of registration would have been just as Sanders began his multi-state rally of big wins out west. So I'm just not sure how new voter registration went as the Mar deadline loomed.

(113,065 posts)will see the inflated polls for her and not show up assuming she has it in the bag, and while Sanders voters are taking it far more seriously, imo.
I think it's going to be very tight.

(25,406 posts)I read too much into the size of Bernie's rallies and his home state advantage. I do still see this as a surprising loss, and devastating for Bernie's campaign.
