Don't most sensible people have backup plans for in case (God forbid) they lose their jobs or they get priced out of a neighborhood?

If that happened to me, where would I go? And I'll be honest - I don't think there's anywhere in the US I could afford. I'd need to work, and I'd need to have a decent life (recreation, maybe a car for weekends, a humble bungalow...) - but when you look at the prices for things in places like LA or SF and anywhere on the West Coast frankly, it's unreal.

Then I thought, what about outside the country? I never considered that as a viable plan for an adult working-age person, but given how miserable things have gotten for working people in the US, maybe one needs to consider that route seriously.

Seems sad to me that we've gotten to this point.
