HENNIKER, N.H.
The first ever New England College poll shows the presidential race in New Hampshire and the state's race for governor too close to call with less than two weeks before the Nov.
The automated survey found President Barack Obama leading his Republican challenger Mitt Romney within the margin of error at 49 percent to 46 percent and 2 percent saying some other candidate. About four percent were undecided.
The poll shows candidates for president have different strengths, said Tafoya. President Obama has a solid lead for voters under the age of 65. However, former Governor Romney leads with those over the age of 65. This is a similar trend to the voting in 2008 when then candidate Obama had a smaller margin over Senator McCain among older voters.

New Hampshire is a battleground state at multiple levels on the ballot, explains Dr. Wayne Lesperance, director of the Center for Civic Engagement at New England College. We sought the most likely voters for this poll in order to get the best sample of who will turnout in this election. What we found was high interest from respondents and two razor thin margins in both."
Overall, the poll called land lines and cellphones of 571 respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percent. The survey was conducted Oct. 23-25.

(25,415 posts)NH went blue in '04 and '08 and was really close in '00. I still think Obama has a better shot at NH then CO. NH has more registered Repubs then Dems just like CO. But in NH independents outnumber them both. NH is more libertarian then conservative on fiscal issues and much less conservative socially then CO. I mean, gay marriage is legal in NH and the Repubs in the legislature there voted against a repeal bill.
