Related: About this forumJeff Weaver just admitted on MSNBC that they don't care
if they lose both the popular vote and the earned delegates, they're going for the the super delegates. What a hypocritical campaign the Sanders campaign has become.

(9,497 posts)We have overwhelmingly supported Bernie in the two parts of our caucus so far.
And by the reaction to the mention of the superdelegates on Sunday, they will face the public in the future. I know I will not vote for them again if they don't. I have always voted for the Dems, I don't care if Patty and Maria don't go back to the Senate. They voted for the TPP anyway.
Johnyawl
(3,205 posts)Sanders supporters won the overwhelming majority of the approximately 200,000 democrats who showed up for the caucus. This is not to be sneezed at or denigrated, it's a major accomplishment.
Maria Cantwell won re-election 4 years ago with 1,800,000 votes. In the same election Jay Inslee won the governor's race with
1,500,000 votes.
So realistically there are approximately 1,500,000 to 1,800,000 democratic and democratic leaning voters in Washington state.
Obviously there are both HRC and Sanders supporters in those numbers.
So why did 1,300,000 to 1,600,000 democratic and democratic leaning voters NOT go to the caucus?
a) too busy
b) too tired
c) too apathetic
d) too cynical
e) just don't give a rats ass, will vote for either candidate.
For anybody who pays attention to politics in this state the answer is overwhelmingly e)
When November rolls around if HRC is the candidate this state will go for HRC and reelect all the democratic super delegates to the offices they hold. If Sanders is the candidate this state will go for Sanders and reelect all the democratic super delegates to the offices they hold.

Yeah, I hear that! I spend several years active in the democratic party in South King County, my wife ran for office, and we were heavily involved in the party at the county and LD level. When you see them up close you discover even the politicians you loved, admired and respected were basically self centered egotists. I don't think a person can succeed in politics without that. I still vote for them, I just don't want to be around them.
SE King County is pretty Red. All of my representatives at the state level are republicans, and I'm stuck with Reichert. Thank god the dems seem to have a lock on the state wide races.

That is an excellent reason to switch.
The poll numbers are there.
There are several other reasons that they may switch between now and the convention. Bernie should not quit the race until the convention.
Anything can happen. It may be an open convention, and Bernie would have the best chance in November.

(1,788 posts)I'm confused....Say she has the most pledged delegates, meaning more voters voted for her, the supers should overturn the will of the people in the Democratic primary? If it was reversed, would you think it was a good idea?

(1,729 posts)As I said elsewhere, CNN's Facebook page had a post about the people who died in the flood in Houston and Bernie supporters were derailing the tragic topic of thread by ranting about CNN's delegate count. It was truly the most disgusting low point I've seen in this election.
I've always had a huge issue with the way right wingers go onto the most random news story and start going on about "liberals," "Obama," "Illegals" or whatever, and nine times of ten, the story's not even about politics! I read one article about a little girl having a heart transplant and it became all about liberals are evil. I swear you could read an article about a horse winning a horse race and they'd make it about politics. Well, now we've got our own version of that on the left and it is a very said thing.

(57,936 posts)Sanders' positives are very, very high and his negatives very, very low. He is likely to win against any of the Republican candidates. Hillary is riskier.
And our Party is split. It will be easier for Hillary supporters to switch to Bernie than for Bernie supporters to switch to Hillary.
Trust Buster
(7,299 posts)They would love to run against him.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)But you never know. Sanders now has name recognition. No matter what happens in the Party, his polling in face-offs with every one of the Republicans show Bernie winning.
He should stay in the race. Many of us in California want to vote for him.
And a lot can happen in so far as Hillary is concerned between now and the election.
She has several problems. Even if she should win the nomination, she could still have problems.
She is popular among the elite of the Democratic Party, and that gets her lots of primary votes, but how she would do in a general election? I don't think she is a strong candidate at all.
Trust Buster
(7,299 posts)JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)Hillary had favored companies that are her donors on votes and as Secretary of State, but Bernie did not "tell" on her. He has been very careful not to attack her.
She has attacked him.
They have policy differences.
Bernie is building a movement. This is not just about an election for those of us who support Bernie. I think Bernie is doing the right things and should not change one hair on his head or any aspect of his campaign.
Hillary can't deal with it because she is a weak candidate. She does not have the temperament to be a president, and it shows.
Now Obama. He has the temperament to be a president. He does not react to every tiny slight. Slights are a part of life. Bernie handles them well. Hillary???? Not so much. Very sensitive. Hypersensitive. And it isn't because she is a woman. It's because she is Hillary.

(8,791 posts)The existing rules, DNC, and Democratic Party establishment favored the front running candidate, Hillary Clinton.
For Sanders to continue campaigning up to the Democratic convention is good just for the fact that Clinton and the Democratic Party will do better in the general election and down tickets the better they know and address the liberals that support Sanders.
If not against the rules to solicit super-delegates, why not? It is good for the Party and nation.

(5,790 posts)That's not what happened.
The media made much of the run of states Sanders won coming into this, but they were all states in his demographic wheelhouse. Now, the race turns to states more prone to support Secretary Clinton. Also, after the New York win, expect the national polls to start swinging back in Clinton's direction.
That is not to say that Sanders has not run a competitive race, and he's raised a ton of money. In the end, I don't think Weaver will sway any SDs.
I suspect that the other strategy Weaver will recommend is shifting the campaign to California now, and seeing if Sanders can pull an upset there.

I'd be shocked if many of these supers would actually switch after that, especially with Hillary leading in the delegate count.
