2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAfter NY, Now is the Time for All Good Democrats to Come to the Aid of the Party & Support Hillary!
Hillary has now won New York in landslide, and now is within striking distance of formally clinching the nomination. Her getting to the magic number is essentially an inevitability. The sooner Democrats unite to beat Donald Trump, the better. So much for the upset Bernie was gonna get. Hillary won with married men, married women, blacks, Jews, tied with whites (in margin of error), won across issues, in a state that has a solid cross section of the Democratic electorate.
Now is the time for all good Democrats to come to the aid of the party and support Hillary Clinton for President!

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
I thought this was Democratic Underground? Not about this so I will let the jury decide.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Apr 19, 2016, 11:51 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I have mixed feelings about the post. Yes, this is Democratic Underground. It comes close to violating terms of service. The question is if we should support the Democratic Party, even if it is screwed up or should we work to make it a better party that works for the betterment of all or just for the betterment of the few.
Keeping the comment allows for others to argue against its point. Voting to hide, stops thought that may lead the poster, or others with the same opinion to change this opinion. Or maybe others will join in with the "offending post."
I am using jury nullification to vote to keep the post.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't see the harm in someone stating that they are fleeing to the Independent party now that BS lost.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: FFS
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(65,616 posts)Shame. Both are great politicians that are shit on in here day in and day out. Hopefully there are enough of us that will support the nominee over the hyper-partisans running rampant on the ramparts in GD-P.
HRC won NY...that is reality. People need to develop coping skills when their pony doesn't win.

(8,352 posts)This isn't a horse race.
The two candidates represent literally two different viewpoints of the left here in America.
Clinton might net +26 delegates tonight. This is no landslide. This is not over.
Rex
(65,616 posts)So it's a game if Trump wins? Cruz wins? Sorry, game over. Nobody put the hyper-partisans are calling it over...you won't see me saying that at all.
And sorry, but HRC is not even part of the ownership society...why are people pretending she is? Just because it fits?
Horseradishes.
TM99
(8,352 posts)If Trump or Cruz wins, it is Clinton's fault. It is not those of us who do not vote for her and won't vote for her.
If you don't realize that Clinton is intimately connected to the ownership society you are simply blinded by party loyalty.
Rex
(65,616 posts)You don't think Bernie has his own SIG? Donald Trump is far more close to the OS then Clinton will ever be. What people fail to come to terms with is that the people that rule over the country are not the politicians we put into office. And then do something about that.
I know many think HRC is the wrong way to go...I felt that way in 2010 then I looked into her background for myself and there is nothing there. She makes a lot of money at speaking engagements. I can't get angry about that.
You are the enemy of the left.
If you believe Hillary Clinton is just another benign pol, just giving some speeches, and equivalent to Sanders, then you are just not seeing reality as it is.

Her love of war and regime change is much worse now not to mention the fact that she is owned by all those corporations that paid her big $$$ for 'speeches' (more likely quid pro quo promises). Dirtiest, nastiest campaign of my lifetime, and I fear he won't stop it any time soon.
I think we need to simply accept that there are some (not even most, but probably most vocal on this site) Sanders supporters that are never going to vote for her. Let's leave them to beat the dead horse and let's move on. We have work to do in the general and can't be wasting more time on this nonsense.

(10,650 posts)Hillary has run a dirty campaign. Sanders has been very easy on her. He should be screaming about the FBI investigation and the corruption of the Clinton Foundation, but like the emails, he won't go there.
Evidently you have the world's shortest memory. The dirtiest Democratic campaign was run by Hillary and Bill in 2008. But that's OK, you Hillbots can't remember anything, that's why you can support Ms. "Golden Sacks".
Bernie needs to stay in the race and offer all the voters a real Democratic alternative against the Third Way republican money grubber.

Just because a lot of fools think voting for a war-mongering elitist that wouldn't piss on the working class is ok, because there is a "D" next to their name, doesn't mean I'll throw away my values to vote for slime. (9,289 posts)Bernie is a long shot but his chances are still not zero.
Further, even if it were zero, the voters in the states that have no voted still deserve to have a chance to have a say and vote in this primary.
And, even if it was impossible, every vote for Bernie is another person saying the type of democratic party they want. Bernie was never supposed to get this far, and the fact that he has just shows how upset a huge portion of the democratic voters are with the establishment.
To ignore that, is to risk bringing upon the democratic party in a future election what the Republican party has brought upon itself this election with Trump.
I will be with whoever gets the official nod at the convention or till one of them drops out, but till that happens I will be pushing Bernie all the way.

(11,605 posts)If he is behind in the pledged delegates and popular vote after the DC primary I think he should bow out gracefully and use the support and power he has earned he has earned to influence the party platform, help unite the party, and support progressive down-ballot candidates.

(6,604 posts)and a little thing called a "convention" yet to be held. You should look that up to see what it means.
Beacool
(30,250 posts)Sanders has the right to do the same. Hillary will be the nominee, there's no doubt about that, she has more than double the pledged delegate lead that Obama had in 2008. But, it's not a smart thing to push too hard. People need to feel that they had a chance to vote for Sanders in their state. Shorting the process would be counterproductive. Hillary will need Sanders' supporters in the GE, just like Obama needed hers.
ericson00
(2,707 posts)about whether Obama, the front-runner, could win. That was the unsaid part. Also, the Clintons were/are party heroes then and now.
Doubt about the front-runners ability to win is not widespread as it was in 2008. Therefore, Bernie has no business staying in.
Raster
(20,998 posts)The Clintons party heroes? Seriously, not in my book. I have been a faithful party member for over 40 years. THEY ARE NO HEROES OF MINE. Sorry, buddy, not in my book.
And the doubt about the "front-runner's" ability is just as much a concern now as it was then, perhaps even more so. If Hillary Clinton is our party's nominee, she will be one of the most - if not the most - hated Democratic nominees in my lifetime. All this hoopla over Hillary's latest "win" don't mean shit in the General Election.
No, Bernie has very right and every business to stay in the race until the convention. And neither you, nor Hillary, nor Brock, nor anyone can take that away.
Bernie is staying in, because many of us DEMOCRATS have legitimate doubts.
Marrah_G
(28,581 posts)I think you "get it" because of the 2008 primary trainwreck that was DU. I don't hate Hillary, I just want to be able to cast my vote and see this through. Then, if Hillary is the candidate I will try to switch to her. It's a strange thing to see some Hillary supporters now be as mean as many of the Obama supporters were back then.

(30,250 posts)Hopefully, once the nomination process is over, we will unite as a party. As we did in 2008.

(9,385 posts)You're at least 2+ months early.
It doesn't take much to win a "home" state, in a closed primary, where only 29% of those in the party vote, where major voting irregularities take place, and most of Bernie's voters are not eligible. Color me unimpressed by that "landslide".
Spoiler: Hillary is going to walk right into a buzz saw as soon as she takes on Trump (he'll hit her with all the things the FBI wants to talk to her about). And btw, she could take on Trump now if she wants to, no one is stopping her.
I think she should go ahead and bravely do that.
Sanders is going to run his campaign wihout her input all the way to the convention, as he has always said. Get over it.
