Mitt Romney 2012 Campaign: Wisconsin Becomes The New Ohio

Mitt Romney 2012 Campaign: Wisconsin Becomes The New Ohio

by Amanda Terkel and Sam Stein at Huffington Post

"SNIP.................................................

WASHINGTON -- With President Barack Obama stubbornly maintaining a small but clear lead in Ohio polls, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign is contemplating a shift in its electoral map. The pathway to denying the president a second term that once seemed premised on taking back the Buckeye State is increasingly shifting focus to another Midwest state: Wisconsin.

Romney campaign officials would never publicly announce a change in approach. And it's not that they are giving up entirely on Ohio; they certainly have the money to compete anywhere. But Republican sources say Romney headquarters in Boston is increasingly seeing Wisconsin as a state more apt for flipping. Less campaigning has taken place there, meaning fewer voters have been overwhelmed by, and tuned out, political ads. Moreover, the Badger State has, in recent months, been more conducive to Republican success and possesses a stronger ground operation.

On top of that, the Romney ticket features a native son -- vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan -- and the Republican National Committee is headed by former Wisconsin Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus.

On Friday, the Romney campaign announced it would begin airing ads on broadcast television in Minneapolis -- not to test the waters in Minnesota, though they welcomed the speculation that that's what they were doing -- but to filter into media markets in western Wisconsin. Romney, moreover, is set to head there on Monday night, marking the first time he has visited the state since August, when he announced Ryan as his running mate.

They're welcome to try, but I'd note that Nate Silver currently gives Obama an 86% chance of winning there.

Why is he making a play for this state? Nate Silver is predicting right now that its Obama @ 86% chance of winning.

Voter fraud? A fake out? Confused here.

He's conceding Ohio without saying it overtly.

Without OH, he absolutely MUST win VA and WI or else he loses no ifs, ands or buts.

They have another medium size county ready to take the place of Kathy Nickolaus scam. I wonder if Waukesha finally got rid of her "personal" computer that they "had" to use to compile the votes. They never were able to prove something with her, but I really feel there was some padding going on there.

Not only does the president have a solid polling lead in Ohio, about 20 percent of the vote is in with that lead built in.

So, it means even drawing to a clear tie by election day won't get it done, because the cake is partially baked already.

He would have to be polling up a clear point or two to make up for what is already cast.

I don't think Wisky has early voting, at least not on the level Ohio has had.

pork is the new beef. Wisconsin is a much more difficult state to crack. Why not go for gold and campaign in Oklahoma where he really has a chance of winning. Mitt Romney turning sense into stupid.
