2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRachel is reporting that Democrats are happier than ever with the party...
...while Republicans are angrier than every with theirs.
Also, Americans at large prefer the Democratic Party over the Republican Party, by far.
According to Pew Studies.

Sure there are tensions between the camps, but most will align before November, if some consessions are made.
Since this is politics, concessions are standard operation and they will occur. That's what the convention is for.

(30,613 posts)Of course, the poll does not include the droves who have already given up on the party. The party has swerved so hard to the right that it's left millions of people in the cold, nominally "independent" but really "forgotten and ignored."

(47,803 posts)That may be the biggest unofficial party.....and in addition to independents includes many Democrats too.

(30,613 posts)The party has evolved into Pub-Lite; it no longer drives the agenda; it merely promotes the same corporate agenda with different social-issue window dressing.

(9,314 posts)20,000 Democrats had left the party this year alone. 17,000 had registered as Independents and 3,000 had registered with the GOP. I don't really believe overall Democrats are happy because too many have left and too many talk about leaving. I think it is because of the Third Way influence, and the conservative element which has seeped in. We need to clean house.

"As for guests, theres either Barney Frank or Howard Dean attempting to define quid pro quo on their off nights from the banking and insurance lobby. Theres Joan Walsh, the odds on favorite for Secretary Of Umbrage in a Clinton administration. And theres the endless cavalcade of shills from Ed Rendell to Jonathan Capehart all eager to explain how Bernie has no path to the nomination while mute on Bill and Hillarys path to integrity.
But reading an entire library of Noam Chomsky will not prepare you for the abject, point missing idiocy of Joy Reid and the strip club. We have referred to male politicians as corporate whores since our first published word. If the Hillary defenders prefer Goldman Sachs escort thats fine by us. And while it might be nice for Miss Reid to at least note the Clintons role in the systemic stripping away of social and economic justice as they grabbed millions of dollar bills with four fists, its far easier to acknowledge that the only difference between MSNBC and Fox News is hemlines."

(110,159 posts)bullshit. Just like with Sanders campaign, isn't it so easy just to label and attack without ANY substance. Childish and bullshit and the adults do NOT have conversation in that manner. It is non productive, hence a waste of time and effort. It solves NOTHING because there is no thinking. just attack, call some names and walk away. No thinking of solutions and doing the homework. Ultra in lazy and you want to be taken seriously?

Anyone involved in social justice in history has invariably been referred to as a left-wing threat to the reasonable, pragmatic middle.
Instead of denigrating the people who gave you more equality, maybe stop, reflect, crack open a book, and thank them once in awhile.
It's fine, though. All those "left-wing baggers" are willing to drag your butt on up along with them in pursuit of progress.
When we get there, will you say thank you?
I suspect not. But "left-wing baggers" expect that, too.
And they still fight anyway.

(110,159 posts)That was so precious they gave me more equality. Gosh, lucky me. Now we are simply the establishment, are being shoved to the side because other things are more important, and being lectured for voting with our vagina.
Ya.... I should just shut up and be quiet while a group, of majority of white men, tell me I have no role becuase their issues are more important.
Right Prism, because you lecturing me on feminism is always so warm and cozy.

As for the rest of your post. I said none of those things. I mean, I know better with you and your method of debate (open crayon box, select colors at random, fling at wall, and hope a vague picture takes shape).
My response was really for other people.
I remember when you used to berate LGBTers during HoF's wonderful TERF phase.
So you already have a history of being on the wrong side on this stuff. Why stop now?

(50,278 posts)I've started ignoring all phone calls, fundraising emails and pitches in the mail (the last one, purportedly from the POTUS, went directly to the shredder). I'm still trying to decide whether to go officially Independent or not. The closed primary thing is a consideration since I know I would never vote for a Republican and do want a say in the Democratic nominee, even though my say doesn't seem to mean much anymore.

(1,748 posts)Rachel is reporting on the ever shrinking pool of people willing to identify with this sinking ship of a party as if it doesn't matter.

(20,176 posts)the highest popularity that Communist party ever had in Soviet Russia was in the late 1940s and early 1950s after Stalin's purges of those insufficiently loyal to him. Was this because the people were happiest then? Was it was because the greatest number of those who were unhappy had "left the building", so to speak--either by their own volition or by the purge?
A majority of Hillary's supporters and those that don't think her presumed nomination is an act worth leaving the party over say this is the happiest they've ever been with the party? I'm going to call that a "No shit, Sherlock?!" statement. It's like polling members of the Romney family on who the best Presidential candidate was in 2012.
Stacked pool yields predictable result.

(32,712 posts)Rachel showed the clip of Bernie criticizing the party after the segment you're referring to, but she didn't actually address the contradiction between what democrats feel vs. what Bernie feels. Maybe because Jane was on as a guest.
Anyhow, if Bernie continues to attack the party, more people will have a negative view of the democratic party--just in time for the GE! I really don't understand his strategy, at this point. Or maybe he just hasn't considered how his words might affect the election.

(2,145 posts)Name recognition is mostly what it is about. A woman - 3 friends. He's a little old man - 2 friends. Things were good when Bill was president - most of my friends. They don't really dig and they don't really care as long as there's someone they know and think is ok. I am most political and most informed. Also, these are fairly well-to-do people who really don't have time (they think) to worry about others. Just a fact. And the last thing they want to do is talk politics - mostly the women.
My male friends are more into politics than the women. Even they tend to not delve too deeply into social issues. Economically, they are doing well. They like it.
I'm a teacher. Most of my teacher friends are for Bernie. A few for Clinton and they are all women. Three males at my school are for Bernie. We have very few men at my school.

(5,790 posts)I suspect (I don't have data to back it up) that Republicans who identify as "Tea Party Conservatives" remain registered Republicans -- and they are, indeed, angry.
However, as anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes in GD: P knows, many of those who self identify as "Progressive" or "Liberal" are not registered Democrats. They are independents who vote for Democratic candidates because they represent the practical alternative to Republicans. This is the voter segment that is most heavily supporting Bernie Sanders, and they are mad as Hell at the Democratic party.
