First on CNN: Sanders' lone Senate backer says he should drop out before convention if he's losing

CNN:

Bernie Sanders' lone supporter in the Senate said Thursday that the Vermont senator should end his presidential campaign if he's losing to Hillary Clinton after the primary season concludes in June, breaking sharply with the candidate who is vowing to take his insurgent bid to the party convention in Philadelphia.

In an interview with CNN, Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley argued that the party should be united heading into the July convention. And that if Sanders has no viable path to the nomination after the final round of primaries in June, he should concede to Clinton at that point. He said that Sanders should follow the model employed by Clinton in 2008, who dropped out in June of that year and pledged her support to Barack Obama.

"Secretary Clinton, then senator, said, 'OK, I had the discussion across America. I'm ready to pivot and work together.' And Obama reached out, and she reached out, and that should be a model for us to follow," Merkley said outside of the Capitol on Thursday. "I think after California, June 7, is about the time it would be appropriate -- all states will have weighed in by then. It will then give them five weeks to work together" before the convention.

Asked if that meant he believed Sanders should drop out if he has no viable path to the nomination after the June primaries, Merkley said, "Yes."

Merkley is fully, fully supportive of Sanders and said so just yesterday in an interview. He maintains there is still a path to the nomination.

Let's not pretend anyone in camp HRC had ever heard of the guy, or has ever given a flying fuck what he has had to say, up to this very moment.

He will be fine, because he represents the views of his state. Whichever one that is, amirite?

You can't make this shit up. Like if I were trying to invent a caricature an out of touch, bubble-dwelling Manhattanite, I would leave out that detail because it would seem too egregiously over the top, or obvious.

Beyond that, I keep getting told how dismally disappointed and emotionally distraught I am, by angry ranting people with spelling issues and whatnot. It's odd, honestly.

We have 3 million more votes and all Sanders supporters have is to scream loudly that there is fraud anytime he looses.

If you bothered to read the article it says that Sanders one Senate backer is encouraging him to drop out before the convention.

On DU at least Sanders supporters try to censor Hillary supporters. Anytime someone posts something critical of Bernie they get altered on.

Do not invite him to the convention. Strip him of his committees in the Senate ... he would chair some if we take back the Senate...put him on ignore for the rest of his career.

That's already true. For the longest time requests were made for someone to demonstrate with delegate math a viable path for Sanders, and the *only* attempt I ever saw was one dubbed the "Bern Path." I'm sure many of you saw it. It was utterly unrealistic, of course.

There's a reason why nobody has put forth a realistic demonstration, because it can't be done.

Votes less than Hillary, judging by this he is less electable. I don't care if he stays in and waits for everyone to vote, but it would be a better history for Sanders to get behind Hillary and bring his supporters out to vote in November.
